Chargers Score Four Touchdowns in First Half to Pounce on Bears
After getting off to slow or shaky starts the last few weeks, Brian Flores decided to put his offense on the field first this season.

The result? A touchdown on each of it's first three drives, jumping out to a dominating lead and riding it for a 42-24 victory over the Chicago Bears.

The Chargers scored 28 points in the first half, higher than their season average all of last year. Rookie QB Will Castonzo had three total touchdowns, including running in for one in the first quarter.

He added to his touchdown total with his second touchdown to D.K. Metcalf in the fourth quarter. Metcalf finished the game with 7 receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns, accounting for over half of the team's passing offense.

In their first prime time game of the season, the Los Angeles Chargers will trek into Kansas City with a chance to slay the dragon.

The Chiefs are coming off a 23-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in what has been an up and down season for them. After beginning the year with a win, they lost to the lowly Detroit Lions 34-28 and needed a strong second half to pull away from the Chicago Bears. The Chargers, on the other hand, have handily handled their last two opponents as the team is only getting better and healthier.

Trade acquisition Derrick Henry is expected to make his debut, coming back just in time as current starting running back Felix Whittaker is out with an injury.

Mahomes Injured in Chiefs Loss to Chargers
All was well in Kansas City as the Chiefs were matriculating down the football field with Patrick Mahomes completing two passes for 53 yards. And then Mahomes was sacked on back to back plays, getting injured on the last one and not returning.

The Los Angeles Chargers were then able to lock down on defense and let their offense go to work on their way to a 37-26 win.

The chest injury that Mahomes suffered is not expected to be a serious one. Neither is the thumb injury that Chargers QB Will Castonzo picked up as he scrambled for a first down in the third quarter. The Chargers called a timeout and Castonzo was able to return to the game and finish it off.

He completed 18 of 29 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown as well as registering his first 100-yard rushing game with 129 yards on the ground.

Chargers running back Derrick Henry made his Charger debut, rushing for 118 yards and the first touchdown of the game.

It wasn't that long ago that the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Chargers were in similar situations. Both had serviceable quarterbacks in Dwayne Haskins Jr. and Hal Sams but couldn't quit figure it out and put together a winning season. Detroit, foiled by early success and a down year in the division, decided to go all in and trade for Chargers safety Nasir Adderley.

The Chargers got a bit worse in that trade arguably and finished with the league's worst record while the Lions eventually returned to their losing ways and finished near the bottom of the standings. Los Angeles then retooled their offensive line using the second round pick Detroit gave them, got rid of Sams and now have a potential franchise quarterback while Detroit is back at the bottom, spent a first round pick on a backup tight end and gave a quarterback with zero playoff wins nearly $90 million.

Castonzo Leaves Game With Injury, Escape With Win in Detroit Following Lions Rally
The Los Angeles Chargers appeared to be on their way to continue their quest of being undefeated, heading into a bye week.

And then Dwayne Haskins started to get things going in the passing game, Chargers QB Will Castonzo got hurt, Marcus Mariota threw a pick six and all of a sudden, we had ourselves a game.

The Chargers defense made back-to-back stops with less than five minutes left in the game as they hung on for a 28-23 win over the Lions.

Castonzo injured his back in the fourth quarter as he was rolling out of the pocket and threw the ball away only to be hit by a Lion defender. Two plays later, Mariota's pass to Amon Ra St. Brown was dropped by the receiver and the ball bounced into Holton Hill's hands for an easy touchdown return to cut the Los Angeles lead to five points.

Mariota and the Chargers offense failed to gain another first down in the game, partly due to Derrick Henry also leaving the game with an injury. The Chargers defense, however, forced a three-and-out of their own and then stopped the Lions on fourth and eleven on the next Detroit drive.

The injury to Castonzo is not believed to be serious.
