Batista is really good, just hasn't really had a real run at any belt yet.

Yeah Austin, HHH and The Rock were like the three guys I grew up on in wrestling, definitely the most interesting characters for me.

December Week 4 | Seattle, WA

Match #1: The Rock vs. Goldberg | One on One Normal Match
We haven't seen Goldberg in action since RAW three weeks ago when he lost the fatal 4-way match for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Well he appeared on Smackdown! tonight itching for a non-title contest against the champ, to which The Rock obliged. Goldberg was all over The Rock from the outset, hitting him with a spear early that earned a two count, and later a Jackhammer that the Rock kicked out of at the last second. When Goldberg went for a second Jackhammer, it was the Rock's turn to reverse and go on the offensive. He countered Goldberg's finisher and hit a Rock Bottom of his own, but that wasn't enough to win. The two continued on even footing, until The Rock was able to put Goldberg down with a Spinebuster and hit the People's Elbow, but that only earned him a count of two. In his frustration, The Rock gave Goldberg too much time to recover and that cost him, as a pair of Jackhammers from Goldberg were enough to pin the champ 1, 2, 3. After the match, Chris Jericho came out and blindsided the Rock before calling for the referee to lower a steel cage around the ring. He continued to beat up The Rock, but eventually the champ recovered and whipped Jericho head-first into the cage, dazing him. The Rock called for a microphone and stated, "Alright Jericho, you want to be a thorn in The Rock's side? The Rock will give you what you want. You, me, steel cage at Night of Champions. If you smellllllllllelelelelaooo, what The Rock is cooking!"

Match #2: John Cena vs. Big Show | One on One Normal Match
Before this match started, Rey Mysterio came out to ringside and walked to go join Cole and JR at the announce table after a long stare-down with Cena. During the match, Cena whipped Big Show into a corner then got in a verbal confrontation with Mysterio outside the ring. While that happened, Show attacked Cena from behind while Mysterio casually walked away. Show continued to beat up Cena thanks to the diversion before rolling him back in the ring and hitting him with a KO Punch to win the match. Mysterio stood on the stage laughing at the loss he'd just cost the United States Champion heading into their confrontation at Night of Champions.
Winner: Big Show by pinfall.

Match #3: Brothers of Destruction vs. Golden Truth | Two on Two Tag Team
Goldust put up a fight against Undertaker for a bit but it didn't last long. Kane didn't even have to tag into this one as Taker abused Goldust until he finally escaped and tagged in R-Truth, who did no better. Truth was ragdolled by Taker before being chokeslammed and hit with a Last Ride that put him down for the three count.
Winners: The Brothers of Destruction by pinfall.

Main Event: Batista w/ Ric Flair vs. Eddie Guerrero | One on One Normal Match
Batista didn't wait for Guerrero to do his usual show-boaty entrance on the ramp, as he went charging right at him hitting a spear before the match even got started. The referee asked Guerrero if he was ok to continue, and he agreed, but he probably shouldn't have. Batista was relentless, throwing everything in the book at Guerrero before eventually hitting him with a devastating Batista Bomb. However, Eddie kicked out and that infuriated The Animal. Batista totally lost it, stomping out Guerrero before calling for Flair to pass him a chair and smacking Eddie in the back with it signaling a disqualification. When the referee told Batista to stop, he replied by blasting the official in the face with the chair as well before eventually eventually being calmed down by Flair and walking off as the show came to an end.

January Week 1 | East Rutherford, NJ

Match #1: Godfather vs. Rhyno | One on One Normal Match
Rhyno defeated The Godfather with the Gore in somewhat of a throwaway match to open the show.

Match #2: Big Show vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Bryan Danielson vs. John Cena vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Rikishi vs. Big Boss Man vs. Shane McMahon | 8-Man Battle Royal Over the Top Rope
Shane McMahon came out and announced that he and seven other superstars would be competing in an 8-Man battle royal, in which the last man standing would be awarded a guaranteed spot in the Royal Rumble. Shelton Benjamin kicked off the action by scoring a big clothesline to eliminate Big Boss Man, but as he celebrated that, Bryan Danielson flipped him up and over the ropes as well to bring the contest down to just 6 men fairly quickly. The Big Show and John Cena continued their long-standing rivalry in the corner, but Show was too powerful for the United States Champion and was able to eliminate him as well, leaving five competitors. Bryan Danielson then got grabbed from behind by Shane McMahon, who attempted to hurl him over the top rope, but Danielson was too quick and used Shane's momentum to send the Billionaire Prince flying right over the top rope. As soon as Danielson was done with that though he turned around as was delivered a huge spear from the Big Show. Show tried to hoist Danielson up into a chokeslam but he dodged that, but Show still whipped him to the ropes. As Bryan hung on the ropes, Show went for the clothesline but Bryan dodged it and Big Show's momentum carried him over and out, giving him his third elimination of the match. Rikishi proceeded to toss out Rey Mysterio surprisingly, as the contest came down to Bryan and... Rikishi. Rikishi was almost able to knock out Danielson, but it was the smaller competitor's quickness which gave him the advantage as he picked up the win and secured himself a guaranteed spot in the Royal Rumble.
Winner: Bryan Danielson.

Main Event: Mr. Perfect vs. DDP (c) | One on One Extreme Rules | Hardcore Championship
DDP defeated Mr. Perfect with a Diamond Cutter on a steel chair to retain his title.

December PPV | Baton Rouge, LA

Match #1: Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton | One on One No Holds Barred | Intercontinental Championship
Shawn Michaels and Orton both looked out for blood from the get go in this one, exchanging some of their best high flying and athletic moves right off the bat. Orton decided to tip the scales in his favor a bit when he grabbed a chair, but he was only able to get one shot away on Michaels before HBK kicked it away. The match continued and HBK managed to knock Orton to the floor with a clothesline, before going for his trademark diving elbow. Orton rolled out of the way and then looked for the RKO, but Michaels countered it. Then HBK went for a finisher of his own with the Sweet Chin Music, but Orton dodged that and leveled him with an RKO on the chair that was still sitting in the ring on his second attempt. HBK was busted open by this but he still managed to kick out of the pin at 2. Orton grabbed a chair looking to do more serious damage to HBK but he was quick enough to dodge the chair shot, trip up Orton and then level the champ with a Sweet Chin Music, but Orton also dug deep and kicked out at two. The match continued and things turned when Orton again went for the RKO, but it was reversed by HBK into a... sharpshooter? HBK pulled one out of his old rival's book and locked Orton deep into the sharpshooter in the center of the ring. Orton was able to crawl to the ropes, but with the No Holds Barred rule, HBK was not forced to break. Crying out in agony, HBK forced Orton to submit and won the Intercontinental Championship. For some reason Evolution decided to not get involved in this match, and that appears to have cost Orton in this one.
Winner: Shawn Michaels by submission.

Match #2: John Cena vs. Rey Mysterio | One on One Normal Match | United States Championship
John Cena came out with much more aggression than we usually see from the sometimes comedic-focused superstar. He dominated the early portion of the match, at least until he decided to try to win it with the F-U. Mysterio elbowed him in the head several times to force Cena to release him from his shoulders, and then chopped him down with a chop block. Mysterio went for the West Coast Pop to try to turn the tide and win the match, but Cena caught him out of mid-air and turned that into an F-U to pick up the win in a surprisingly easy victory for the United States Champion.

Match #3: Hardy Boyz vs. nWo Wolfpac | Two on Two Tag Team | World Tag Team Championship
The Hardy Boyz looked to continue their dominance and take advantage of the disarray in the nWo camp to win the titles. Their strategy of isolating one member of the team in their corner proved effective again as Jeff and Matt's two pronged attack on Kevin Nash left him hurt and Scott Hall looked disinterested. Sting was losing his mind over Hall's lack of effort and started mouthing off at him leading to an argument between the two that ended up in Hall clotheslining the leader of the faction. Then Nash DID tag in Hall and he started to dominate the matchup, manhandling Jeff Hardy. The nWo then reversed the Hardyz strategy against them, keeping Jeff isolated in their corner and away from Matt. While he was able to fight back a bit, Jeff was simply no match for both nWo members, and after a Jackknife Powerbomb from Nash, Hall hit Matt Hardy, who was coming in to break up the pin, with a Razor's Edge while Nash picked up the pin on Jeff to retain their titles. After the match, Nash and Hall did their trademark "Too Sweet" celebration together and Sting tried to join in. They looked at him, then at each other, then back to Sting, and ended up hitting him with a double powerbomb. Looks like Hall and Nash still have their chemistry, but the Wolfpac era might be over for the nWo, with Sting appearing to be on the outs.

Match #4: Lita vs. Trish Stratus | One on One Normal Match | Women's Championship
Lita and Trish's feud was finally set to come to a head at Night of Champions. Given the nature of their previous matchups, this one was surprisingly one-sided. Lita looked slow, and Trish looked sharp. There were brief periods where Lita put up somewhat of a fight, but she never even managed to get any of her key moves off, while Trish unloaded with hers. A Chick Kick straight to Lita's head and a second one for good measure were enough for the Women's Champion to retain her title.
Winner: Trish Stratus by pinfall.

Match #5: Rikishi (5) vs. DDP (3) | One on One Extreme Rules | Hardcore Championship
Diamond Dallas Page really took advantage of the Extreme Rules stipulation, running in with a kendo stick during Rikishi's entrance and blasting him across the back with it. Rikishi never had a chance after that as Page simply just kept assaulting him with the kendo stick before hitting a powerbomb and a Diamond Cutter to win and secure the vacant Hardcore Championship. After the match, DDP grabbed a microphone and said he wants to do something interesting with the belt this time around. Any singles match he or any future Hardcore Champion would be in, would always be a hardcore match and ALWAYS be for the Hardcore Championship. This is a belt that will constantly be defended and likely make its way around the roster as long as people are gunning for it.

Match #6: Triple H w/ Evolution vs. Steve Austin | One on One Normal Match | #1 Contender's Match
Prior to this match, Vince McMahon announced that he was going to select two superstars to compete for the #1 Contender spot for the Undisputed Championship, and decide who would face the winner of Jericho vs. The Rock at the Royal Rumble. Triple H and Steve Austin were selected while both Brock Lesnar and Goldberg looked visibly annoyed backstage. HHH came out with Evolution, including a very dejected looking Randy Orton. When the match started the action spilled outside of the ring, but Austin was actually able to use the Evolution's numbers against him. HHH tried to clothesline Austin but he moved out of the way and HHH ended up taking out Orton instead. He didn't bother to apologize and got back in the ring to continue the action with Austin. At one point, the referee was collateral damage of a collision between Austin and HHH and Randy Orton decided to get involved with no referee around. He approached Austin looking to hit the RKO, but turned around and leveled HHH with one instead. The referee got back to his feet and Austin pinned HHH to become the #1 contender. A stunned Ric Flair and Batista looked on at Orton and chased after him for screwing his own Evolution leader in this matchup.
Winner: Steve Austin by pinfall.

Main Event: The Rock vs. Chris Jericho | One on One Steel Cage | Undisputed Championship
The Rock almost put Jericho right out of the gate and looked visibly frustrated by Y2J's antics from the past few weeks. After hitting a Spinebuster and a Rock Bottom, The Rock tried to escape the cage but Jericho stopped him just in time, pulling him down from near the top and causing a lot of damage. It was Jericho's turn to go on the offensive, hitting a series of technical moves followed by a powerbomb and Lionsault that earned him a two count. Jericho looked to lock in the Walls of Jericho and force The Rock to submit, but Rock was able to roll out of it and avoid the submission hold. They fought on fairly even footing for a while, until The Rock hit a second spinebuster. He then went for the People's Elbow and connected with it, but Jericho somehow kicked out of the pin at two. Irritated, The Rock opted to try to escape the steel cage instead, but Jericho caught him at the top. This time though, The Rock countered Jericho's attempt to pull him down. The two exchanged punches at the top of the cage before The Rock gained the upper hand and Rock Bottomed Jericho all the way from the top of the cage back down to the floor. With Jericho knocked out, The Rock easily escaped the cage to win the match and retain his championship, setting up a mega clash at the Royal Rumble with Stone Cold Steve Austin for the title.

January Week 1 | San Antonio, TX

Show Opener Promo | The Rock | Self-Promotion
The Rock opened up RAW is WAR by taking center stage with a microphone to light up the crowd and do a bit of boasting about his win over Chris Jericho at Night of Champions. As he was giving his spiel, we heard the sound of glass shattering as Stone Cold Steve Austin made his way down to the ring. Austin grabbed a mic of his own and said, "Now Rock, you and I go way back. We've had our battles, and as you know, thanks to my win over Triple H we're set to have another one for THAT", as he pointed to the title. The Rock smirked and replied, "Yeah, we used to have our battles to see who was the best, but now The Rock KNOWS he is the best, the WWE fans KNOW he is the best and every superstar in that WWE locker room KNOWS he is the best." Austin retorted, "I guess we'll just have to see then, huh?" He feinted like he was going to hit The Rock, causing the champ to flinch, but simply laughed and walked away as his music played with a visibly annoyed Rock stood alone in the ring.

Match #1: Big Show vs. John Cena | One on One Normal Match
This was supposed to be a match between the Big Show and John Cena but it never even got started. Shelton Benjamin came out during John Cena's entrance with his hand around the US Champion's neck and Cena looking seriously beaten up. He then made a beeline for Big Show, with whom he's had issues with several times over the past year, brawling with him until they could eventually be separated by security. I can't imagine that Cena will be happy about Benjamin taking him out so it will be interesting to see where this goes in the coming weeks.
Winner: No Contest

Match #2: Bryan Danielson & Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman vs. Hardy Boyz w/ Lita | Two on Two Tag Team
The Hardy Boyz came out to lament their loss and in order to get over it, issued a challenge to the WWE locker room that they would take on any tag team willing to challenge them. Out came Brock Lesnar, with his manager Paul Heyman in tow. Heyman told the Hardyz that his client would take them on and that THEY could choose his partner. The Hardyz laughed a bit before selecting Bryan Danielson, the upstart rookie from the indies who had yet to win a match in the company. Lesnar started off the matchup with his makeshift teammate waiting to tag in and utterly dominated both of the Hardyz. He eventually hit an F-5 and tagged in Danielson to go for the pin, but Jeff kicked out at 2. But then, surprisingly, Danielson wasn't deterred by this. He started to work over Jeff Hardy's arms with a series of moves before locking him into a painful looking armbar in the center of the ring. Matt tried to break up the pin but he was met with a freight train like shoulder block from Lesnar, as Jeff was left on his own and forced to tap out to Bryan Danielson to give the rookie his first win.
Winners: Bryan Danielson & Brock Lesnar by submission.

Main Event: Randy Orton vs. Evolution | Handicap One on Three Tag
Triple H came out to the ring with Stephanie McMahon with a smug look on his face. He passed the microphone to his wife who stated that the "traitor" Randy Orton was scheduled for a match tonight... a three on one handicap match against the three remaining members of Evolution, and that would be the main event. Flair and Batista came out in their ring gear to join HHH as Orton came out shortly after looking a bit nervous at the prospect of taking on these three stars having just lost his intercontinental championship the night before. Batista, Orton's closest friend in the group, started off the contest. They hadn't faced before on the main roster and that seemed to show more for Orton, who had no clue how to stop The Animal. Batista kept beating him down before eventually tagging in Ric Flair to continue the job. The geezer worked over Orton's legs before locking in a Figure Four Leglock that Orton was only just able to scramble to the ropes to get out of. But the damage was done as Orton could barely stand. Flair tagged in Triple H, who hit a hobbled Orton with a spinebuster and then a Pedigree before pinning him. After the match, HHH stood over Orton and held his face so he could hear him, "Listen here, and listen good, Orton. You think you can disrespect me? You think you can cost me a shot at the Undisputed Championship and get away with it? You can't. You were never anything, I MADE you the Intercontinental Champion, and you'll never win a thing again without me." HHH pushed Orton's face back to the mat before standing triumphantly with Flair and Batista. Randy Orton was officially out of Evolution.
