Ruthless Aggression | A WWE 2K Universe

April PPV | Seattle, WA
Prototype, Foley and Voodoo kicked off the showcase of the immortals with a ladder match for the Hardcore Title. Mick immediately rolled out of the ring when the bell rang and went for one of the ladders and Voodoo gave chase. Instead of joining, Prototype went to grab the other ladder and try to scamper up and win early while they were distracted but he was pulled off it by Foley, who then hit him with a piledriver forcing him to roll out of the ring and recover. Mick and Voodoo then went back and forth, but Foley again won that one one one by DDTing the champ onto a fallen ladder and bloodying him. Prototype reinserted himself into the action though and had a fist fight with Foley that ended up in him hitting Foley with a massive Shoulder Tackle. The road looked clear for him to climb the ladder to victory but Voodoo sneaked back in and leveled him with a two-handed chokeslam. He then went after the already downed Foley, picked him up and hit him with a Voodoo Bomb. Voodoo climbed the ladder and with a totally clear path, unhooked the Hardcore Championship from above the ring to retain his belt.

Beth Phoenix was badly physically overmatching the Women's Champion at first, but Lita was able to turn things around with her quickness and wit. She took things to the outside where she had more room to operate athletically and used her aerial skills to hobble Phoenix. When they re-entered the ring, Lita hit a big Twist of Fate and Diving Moonsault to surely end the match but Beth somehow kicked out at two. Lita was infuriated and started to lose her composure and by the time she refocused, Beth had woken up and hoisted her up into a Torture Rack. Lita was only just able to get out of it before being forced to tap, but when she did she hit Beth with a Reverse Twist of Fate, but the Glamazon again kicked out at two. Lita, frustrated, tried to set up another one but this was countered into a Torture Rack. However instead of keeping the hold applied, Beth repositioned Lita and hit her with the Glam Slam finisher. Lita somehow kicked out at two but she was clearly spent and Beth still had more in her. She hit Lita with a second Glam Slam to pin her and win her first WWE Women's Championship.

The match that WCW and WWE fans alike have long awaited is finally here. "The Icon" Sting vs. "The Phenom" The Undertaker. The two traded punches to start things off before Sting started to gain an advantage. That was shortlived though as both superstars seemed to have each other's movesets well scouted and constantly countered what the other was trying to do. Thing went like this for a while until Undertaker dragged Sting over to the corner and slammed his head repeatedly against the turnbuckle, busting him open. As the blood on Sting's face started to mix with sweat and his face paint, Undertaker took advantage of his dazed state and hit him with a Chokeslam and then the Tombstone Piledriver. It looked like it was all over but Taker had made a mistake and Sting was close enough to the ropes to get a foot on them, pissing off the Deadman. Taker then locked Sting in the Hell's Gate submission and it looked like he might force him to submit but Sting kicked out of it. Almost out of nowhere, Stinger followed that up with the Scorpion Death Drop. One, two, three... Stunned silence from the crowd as Sting had beaten Undertaker, signifying the Undertaker's first ever loss at the pay-per-view. It seemed it was Undertaker's streak and not Sting that would Rest In Peace.

Cena put on a surprisingly dominant performance here. Though Benoit was the better technical wrestler, Cena was much stronger and also had a level of confidence from being US Champion for so long. Benoit never even really got much offense in this contest and to the shock of everyone watching, was quickly dispatched with a Five Knuckle Shuffle and F-U. Cena didn't seem content with just the win either as after the match he blasted Benoit three times with his championship belt, further incapacitating the challenger. And finally he delivered a second F-U, this time outside of the ring, leaving Benoit battered and broken. Cena has increasingly looked like an unstoppable force in the latter half of this WWE calendar year, who will be able to stop his heel reign post-Mania?

Much like Sting vs. Undertaker earlier, this match was also a dream contest for former WCW and WWE fans alike with possibly two of the most iconic tag teams of both companies facing off. D-X were nowhere near full strength though after enduring attacks from The nWo over the past several weeks as well as a beatdown from Sting himself earlier this week. Despite this, HBK and HHH took control of the match early, isolating Kevin Nash from Scott Hall and beating down on the larger member of the nWo. This was all well and good until Nash caught HBK out of nowhere with a Big Boot and made his way to Scott Hall to make the tag. Hall was fresh and starting to turn the tide of the matchup, chokeslamming HBK and even hitting him with the Outsider's Edge. He almost won with that move but Triple H made the save at the last second to keep D-X in the matchup. Michael started to re-assert himself after that and whipped Scott Hall into the corner. Kevin Nash tapped Hall on the back to make the tag but HBK didn't see it and hit Hall with a Sweet Chin Music anyway. He covered Scott, but the referee refused to count, ruling that Hall wasn't the legal man. A confused HBK got up and looked around in confusion. Nash entered the ring and ran straight for Triple H, hitting him with a big shoulder block that sent him crashing from the apron into the ring table, badly hurting him. He then hit Michaels with a Big Boot and finally the Jackknife Powerbomb as the nWo reclaimed their World Tag Team titles and improved the former WCW's record to a perfect 2-0 on the night.

Chris Jericho and RVD put on an absolute show in this match. The two have spent the last few weeks trying to get the upper hand on each other, but now it was all about showing what they could do one on one in the ring, and what a show it was. It was hotly contested throughout with both superstars showcasing their unique mixes of high-flying and technically advanced moves. Jericho got RVD in numerous submissions and even hit a diving Lionsault to the outside of the ring. Rob Van Dam plastered Jericho with a series of spinning kicks and athletic martial arts moves. At one point, RVD got fired up and clotheslined Jericho into the corner. Jericho recovered by leaning up against the ropes with his head facing the outside. RVD jumped outside and hit Jericho with a devastating drive-by kick that appeared to knock him out cold. It didn't. When RVD went for his Frog Splash to finish, Jericho got his knees up and damaged the abdomen of RVD. He then quickly recovered and locked Van Dam in the Walls of Jericho. With the damage sustained throughout the match, as well as the pain in his midsection, the Walls were too much for RVD to bear as he was forced to submit once again to Chris Jericho as Y2J retained the Intercontinental Championship.

WWE Set for Major Roster Overhaul Following Wrestlemania

That's not all, with the additional time slot during the week, WWE saw this not only as an opportunity to showcase more of its talent, but also to introduce new talent. This has been done through a number of different means: call ups from the Velocity roster, independent wrestling star signings and purchases of wrestlers from other major promotions. However, before we delve into that, it's important to first discuss the superstars who will no longer be part of the WWE roster following Wrestlemania. The headliner of this list is Sting, who just defeated Undertaker at Wrestlemania, handing The Phenom his first ever loss at the Showcase of the Immortals after 10 consecutive wins to start his career. It was revealed that Sting was actually out of contract and unwilling to agree a new deal for the figure WWE wanted, so his match against Taker will likely be his last ever for the company. In addition to Sting, some other veterans who formerly wrestled for WCW have retired, including Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart and Mr. Perfect.
Now to go into the incomings, we will break things down by the categories of signings made:
Velocity Call-Ups
Five superstars shined for WWE on its minor show Velocity for the last few months. While Velocity has been cancelled, these five have not been, as Apollo, Bulk Bronson, Mansa, Prototype and of course the Hardcore Champion, Voodoo, will be joining either the Smackdown! or RAW is WAR rosters going forwards. Additionally, three promising prospects from the WWE's developmental center in Donny Zenk, Dolph Ziggler and Ruby Thunder Thighs will join the Cruiserweight, mid-card and Women's divisions respectively. In the tag team division, Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins, also known as "The Entourage" and two pairs of twins, The Usos and The Colons, also received a call up to the main roster as well.
Independent Wrestling Signings and Free Agents
WWE has signed Kofi Kingston and R-Truth (who was formerly part of the company earlier this year) from the independent wrestling scene. The two are athletic, light heavyweight performers with flashy movesets. They are also tag partners and will likely beef up the tag division going forwards. Further strengthening the tag division, WWE have also secured the contracts of Kevin Steen and El Generico, who will go by the names Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in WWE. Chad Gable, a highly touted amateur collegiate wrestler has also signed a deal with the company, and brings a pedigree similar to that of Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin and Kurt Angle to the company. Reality TV star from MTV's The Real World, The Miz, will be joining the company as well. Lastly, WWE have signed one of the hottest prospects in European, with Irish cruiserweight, Fergal Devitt (now known as Finn Balor) set to make his debut on the biggest wrestling stage.
Signing from Other Promotions
This is where WWE have likely made their biggest splashes. Firstly, re-signing the Dudley Boyz from TNA, a large promotion that grew out of the former WCW. Also coming from TNA are two of the company's biggest rising young stars in AJ Styles and Samoa Joe (featured in the headline picture) in addition to TJP, a high-flying cruiserweight. Another cruiserweight, Japanese star Kenta Kobayashi (to be known as Hideo Itami in WWE) is also set to sign. And last but certainly not least, WWE have made a major coup landing the fastest rising star in Japanese wrestling, the "King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura, from New Japan Pro Wrestling for a very lucrative contract.

2003 WWE Draft

Vince McMahon made Edge, the World Heavyweight Champion, his first overall pick, while also selecting John Cena, Beth Phoenix and The nWo later in the draft, making the World Heavyweight Championship, United States Championship, entire Women's Division and World Tag Team Championships exclusive to RAW. Smackdown! took Brock Lesnar with their #1 pick and also drafted Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho later in the draft making the Cruiserweight Division and Intercontinental Championship exclusive to Smackdown! This leaves Smackdown! without a world champion and Stephanie and Shane announced a plan to rectify that by restoring the WWE Championship, and having Brock Lesnar face an opponent of their choosing for the belt at Money in the Bank. To fill the tag team void on Smackdown, the WWE Tag Team Championships have been restored and will be awarded in a tournament featuring all six tag teams on the roster. The top two ranking tag teams from last year: D-Generation X and The Brothers of Destruction, will have automatic BYEs to the final.
Voodoo, the dominant Hardcore Champion was selected by RAW is WAR, however the Hardcore Championship will not be exclusive to that show. The title will float between shows with the champion able to appear on either show to defend his belt. The title will always be defended in some form of extreme rules, ladder, cell or cage match to maintain the authenticity of its hardcore roots.
Below are the rosters and divisions for both RAW is WAR and Smackdown! following the draft:
