Espanyol Ink Mohammed Salisu for €11M

Espanyol have completed a transfer before the official end of the 2019/20 season, agreeing a deal in principle with Real Valladolid CF to sign 21-year-old center-back, Mohammed Salisu for €11 million. The deal will be completed once the transfer window opens officially in the summer. Salisu is expected to be a rotation player initially, but he is a tall (6'3) and strong center-back prospect who at 21, the club believes can develop long-term into a regular starter and pair with Fernando Calero in a center-back partnership.

Manchester United Sell Sergio Romero to Espanyol for €6.5M

Prior to the end of the season, Espanyol have gotten another deal done. With Diego Lopez retiring, the club needs an experienced keeper to come in and take over the reigns. Enter the 33-year-old Sergio Romero. He is a former Europa League winner with Manchester United, and as an Argentina native is a fluent Spanish speaker and should adapt to LaLiga Santander easily. The club has a very promising pair of goalkeepers coming through the ranks in 18 year old Vicente Lavado and 17 year old Lino Olivera, so Romero is viewed as a great stop-gap solution while one of those two develops into the true #1.

Espanyol Trigger Mazraoui's €25.7M Release Clause

With Javi Lopez departing the club in the summer, Espanyol have triggered the release clause of Fenerbahce's Noussair Mazraoui to provide reinforcement at right-back. Mazraoui is a Moroccan native who came up through the Ajax academy system. At just 22 years old he is very promising and extremely technically gifted for a fullback. The player's flair and skill allow him to play high up the pitch as a wingback or even in central midfield if needed and he should be crucial to Rui Faria's plans moving forward. With Victor Gomez also available at right back, Espanyol have shored up this position for years to come with these two young stalwarts, who both offer something very different at the position.

Yeah good to get some silverware and also winning the Europa League qualifies us for the Champions League next year.
Some of those last few games were annoying as hell. Peppering the CPU's goal and they save everything, then they get one chance and score.

Espanyol Sign Pedro Goncalves from FC Famalicao for €19.3M

Espanyol have come into the summer window with an €80M war chest and are looking to invest heavily in improving the strength of the overall squad to challenge on all fronts in Spain and the Champions League this season. Goncalves is part of that strategy. Last year, the squad suffered a number of injuries in midfield and was short in the position. Goncalves should provide depth there and as a 22 year old Portuguese box-to-box midfielder, has the potential to become a first-choice player in the long-term over Sergi Darder.
In other news. Espanyol secured left-back Matheus Reis' signature for €8.5M to back-up Pedrosa in the position, and they sent out two recently promoted youth prospects, Jose Cruz and Carlos Alberto, on loan to Rio Ave FC and KV Mechelen respectively.

Espanyol Coffers Raided as Pedrosa, Wu Lei and De Tomas Release Clauses are Triggered

It looks like several key players from Espanyol's Europa League winning side won't be sticking around. The club's top scorer and creator from last season, Wu Lei, had his €21.6M release clause triggered by Lazio of the Serie A, and has decided to leave for the Italian side. The club's second leading scorer, 25-year-old striker, De Tomas, is leaving for a Spanish rival in Valencia CF after having his €35.9M release clause triggered as well. Valencia finished above Espanyol last season and also qualified for the Champions League and are a richer club, De Tomas believed more in their long-term prospects to win the league. Lastly, Adria Pedrosa also had his €18.4M release clause triggered by Arsenal. This was probably the most frustrating move for Espanyol, as they spent a lot of time developing the 22 year old left back into the full-time starter last year, only for him to leave the following season.
Espanyol will have to spend more now to replenish their squad, with the signing of at least two strikers and a left-back now essential before the window closes.

Enes Unal Joins Espanyol for €16.5M

Well at least part of Espanyol's new striker problem has been solved now. The club has secured the signature of one of Rui Faria's long-term targets, Enes Unal, from Villarreal for €16.5 million. Unal is a 23-year-old Turkish striker who stands 6'2 and is incredibly strong with a powerful shot and finishing ability. He suits the target man role in Faria's 4-4-2 perfectly and should be a more than adequate replacement for the departed De Tomas. The club still needs to bring in someone in place of Wu Lei as well however, so the business in attack is not quite done yet.

Espanyol Purchase Angelino from Manchester City for €23M

With Pedrosa gone, Espanyol needed a new first choice left-back as Reis was only signed as a backup. Enter 23-year-old Spanish left-back, Angelino, from Manchester City. Angelino is extremely talented but has found it difficult to break into City's first team ahead of fullback options like Mendy and Cancelo. Espanyol represents an opportunity for him to return to his native Spain and also continue to play Champions League football. Angelino will also become the highest paid player at the club, just eclipsing Sergio Romero's €49K per week at €54K per week.

Espanyol Splash another €23M on Sevilla's Munir

Now the striker problem is solved. Sevilla's 24-year-old striker, Munir, has joined Espanyol in a €23 million transfer just days ahead of their Super Cup clash with Champions League winners, Liverpool. Munir possesses very good speed and dribbling ability and excels at playing off another striker, which should mesh perfectly with Enes Unal up front. He will take the #10 shirt at the club, previously worn by top scorer Wu Lei.
