FAIRCREST HEIGHTS (INTERLUDE)
It's been seven months since Recks officially left the NBA to focus on his health and family. Hearing the news of LeBron signing with the Houston Rockets made him zero in on his recuperation even more. Recks spent many days and nights, with the help of Khyri, utilizing Derrick Rose's rehab plan to it's fullest. To Recks' surprise, results were baring fruit by December, but he remembered to keep rehabbing, staying dedicated to the blueprint. On the other side, Khyri has been finding time to workout in the gym. With the triplets well over a year old, she started to get that itch for basketball and found her-self putting shots up at the YMCA gym in Houston. It wasn't long before she got in touch with her agent, Ty Sullivan, proposing a comeback...
There was a knock as Ty Sullivan's door and behind it was Khyri poking her head through the crack of it, "Hey, hey! Catch you at a bad time?"
Sullivan had requested his assistant to hold his calls as he was elated to see Khyri, "No, not at all, Khyri! How have you been? It feel like ages since we last saw each other."
"It's good to see you too. I've been great, enjoying the new mom life, I can't complain. How of your-self?"
"I can't complain. I'm in greater spirits now that my favorite client is before me... Wow, you look amazing. You look jacked!"
"Yeah, after a while, I got back into that space, started eating right, hitting the gym. Now that I'm a mom of four, I got to stay healthy and set a example for them, you know."
"Yeah, absolutely. I wholeheartedly agree. Jeez, you look great. All happy, and glowing." Sullivan couldn't help with the praises, nearly finding himself reaching the deep end with them.
"So who's the lucky guy? If you don't mind me asking."
"He goes by the name of Recks Black."
"Whoa, what? The self-proclaimed "King Slayer"? That Recks Black?"
"Yup, that's the one", Khyri giggles.
"Wow, didn't see that coming. Dude was mega star last season and just up and left the league."
"We got some history, we go way back."
"Ah, I see. Well, it sounds like there's no other better fit for you than him. Congratulations to you both, I'm really happy for you guys. Okay, so, hey, what can I do for you? What brings you in?"
Khyri takes a seat as Sullivan postures on the edge of his desk, "Well, you know that conversation we had about 3 weeks ago?"
"Uh huh. Said you're thinking about returning to the WNBA. You think you're ready?"
"Yeah, I believe so. I love being a stay-at-home mom, living life with the kids, but I had that itch lately."
"Oh, you caught that basketball fever, huh?" Sullivan smiles.
"Yeah, you can definitely say that. I just miss being out there in front of the crowd, I miss that action. Like, my whole life was set in Seattle after winning that title."
"Then, BAM! Life happens."
"Yeah, exactly. But now, with the kids a year in life, Recks' oldest son being older and manageable with the kids, Recks home full-time rehabbing."
"(Oh, so that's what happened to him)", Sullivan thought to him-self.
"I think I'm ready to get back out there and continue my career."
"Okay, okay, I'm liking it so far. You're speaking music to my ears."
"Alright, so what you think?"
"What I think? What I think doesn't matter. Of course, I dabble in advisory on the side, but I'm ultimately here to put you in a uniform, basketball in your hands, and money in your bank account."
"Like the way you think Ty, I always knew you get me."
"Same page, same team, that's what we're about! But yeah, definitely. I'll get on the horn soon, put some feelers out there and see what bites. And it's perfect timing too with the free agency is a couple weeks out. But don't worry. I'll have you signing your name on a contract before May, hell, before March. Tell me where you want to prioritize and some back ups, and I'll get the ball rolling."
Khyri took a moment to think about it. Her choices weren't vast, being there was only a dozen WNBA teams in the association. But even so, there was no team in Houston, thus came the decision of uprooting the family and moving elsewhere. And with Recks and Kairos already on board, it was all but where...
