THREE SIDES TO A STORY

It's been over a month Khyri has heard from Recks. Last she spoke to him was the day Recks went to pay a visit to his ex-best friend, Clinton, in prison. Every day Khyri had tried to make contact through calls and texts, but nothing. Asking acquaintances, but no one has seen him. She was becoming worried for the worst as the days gone by...

"Khyri, you need to sit and breathe, I know you're worried, but focusing so much on the worries is not going to make him walk through that door any faster."

"Auntie Tia, I know, but I can't help but fear for the worst. It's been over a month already and no one has seen him, his phone goes straight to voice mail, I just.. I just don't know what to do right now."

Tia Blu, Khyri's maternal aunt that resided with her and Khyri's parents as she grew up. She was a bit "eccentric", financially. And living above her means left her in debt and single as she almost took her ex-boyfriend to the cleaners. Unfortunately, with Recks missing at home, Tia moves in to help Khyri with the kids.
"What you need to do is relax and think straight. Tell me again, about the last time you two spoke?"

"He said he was going to visit Clinton at the California State Prison. I was against him going, he's no good. But he insisted on seeing him."

"Okay, and who's Clinton again?", Tia asked.

"An ex-friend. Someone I thought that was a real friend. Apparently, you don't know people as you think you would."

"Was there any drama between the two? It couldn't be that serious, could it?"

"... If you only knew auntie", Khyri replied as she sighed."

Khyri would go on to explain the back story of what happened between the trio, their rise and fall of three best friends.

"Oh my, wow... Damn Khyri, and I thought I had it bad."

"Don't rub it in", Khyri shot at Tia.

"I'm not, trust me, I'm on your side, it's just that's a hell of a pickle jar you're in."

"Yeah..."

"Does Recks know about you and Clinton?" Tia asked.

"No, he knows of the situation, but I couldn't bring my-self to tell him who it was."

A little later, Kairos came home summer school. With Recks gone, Kairos began to become detached to everything, rightfully missing his father. Khyri thought it would be a good idea to send him to summer school regardless of his passing grades. He would benefit from it as a distraction from the problems at home.

"Hey Mama Khy, hi, Aunt Tia", Kairos greeted.

"Hey Kai"

"Hey sugar, how's my sweet little handsome man doing?", Tia poured it on thick.

"I'm okay."

"How was summer school, Kai?"

"It was okay. Teacher helped my brush up on my math. Wasn't much else to do after that, so we played basketball in the gym."

"Oh, okay, sounds like you still had a productive day still. You hungry? Your Aunt Tia made her special quesadilla."

"No, I'm not hungry. Have you heard from Dad yet?"

The room got quiet for a moment just before one of the triplets began to cry. Aunt Tia made her exit to check on the child.

"No, sweety, we still haven't heard back from Daddy yet."

"Oh", Kairos drops his head, saddened.

"Hey, chin up. I know you miss your father, but he'll back any day now. I don't want you sad."

"I know..."

Kairos took his book bag off and headed to his room. There wasn't much Khyri could say to really cheer him up. It was like he lost his own best friend. A few hours had passed and Khyri was trying to keep her-self busy from checking her phone, knowingly all her notifications were everyone but Recks. Giving into temptation, she reaches for her phone, but suddenly hears a car at her front curb. Peeking out the window, she didn't recognized the car that was driving away, but saw a figure approaching the front door. Hearing keys jingle at the knob, she immediately lunge at the door, quickly unlatching the locks and tearing away the door open. Lo and behold, Recks Black has returned...

Khyri couldn't believe her eyes. In front of her was standing the man she loves, rocking a new look. Recks had this huge afro and big beard grown in, calling back to the 70's, but she didn't care as Khyri jumped into Recks' arms crying and holding him tight.

"Where have you been?! We was so worried about you!"

"... Sorry."

Hearing the commotion, Kairos and Tia made their way to the front door where Khyri was. At first Kairos didn't recognized who he was, looking at the man curiously.

"Don't I get hug from my son?" Recks asked.

"Dad!!!" Kairos shouted as he raced to him, latching onto his side as Recks brought him in. The three took a moment or two to hug, reconnect after a long month and two weeks.

"I missed you so much, Dad!"

"I missed you too little man, I'm sorry I was gone for so long."

"It's okay, just don't leave again, please Dad", Kairos begged.

"Hey Buddy, hurry up and go put your shoes on, you're coming with me."

As Kairos left to dress up, Khyri was left a bit confused from the rush. "Wh-what's going on? You're leaving so soon? What happened?"

"Relax. Hold off on the barrage of questions, let me just spend time with my son."

"What about the other kids?"

"They'll be fine. They're not going to remember any of this, Kairos is the one I got to make it up to."

Recks looking around Khyri and seeing the familiar face of her aunt, "Hey Tia. long time no see."

"I can say the same about you, young man. The nerves of you having your own family worried sick about you. We wasn't sure if something happened to you, if we had to put out a APB or you'll be found in some ditch somewhere."

"Sorry. I just had to get away and re-channel."

Kairos made his way back to Recks as quick as he could, Recks giving him a look over, noticing his hair was growing peasy.

"Kid, you looking busted. Let's get you a hair cut."

"You going to cut your hair too?"

"Oh no, no, no, this night out is all about you."

"Recks..." Khyri interjected just before Recks and Kairos turned to leave.

"Yeah?"

"I'm glad you're home safe."

"Thank you, always appreciate that."

"Please hurry back home, we need to talk about all this that happened."

"Don't worry, we'll talk, I signed with a team today, Danielle helped me get that bag. So, changes are coming."

"Really? That's wonderful news!" Khyri joyously said. "And please do something about that beard, I do not like it on you, you look weird babe."

Just as Recks and Kairos was walking away together, Recks shouted back, "not as weird as you and Clinton."

It was at that moment, the truth was out, and her world shattered from the inside. Changes, they were definitely coming...

Man said he had to step away for him and him only.

I mean, Candace doing her thing for a 38 year old. She got her spots and I love her post up game. Unfortunately, outside of the first quarter, her & Khyri don't see much time on the floor together to get Candace going.

Boys did well getting Chet.

"And please do something about that beard, I do not like it on you, you look weird babe."

She was just gon try to slide that in there? Nah, shorty. My mans ain't going out like that.

The beard stays or she goes type ish, huh
