Back at it, let's go! Huge third quarter. Franklin gotta get the POTG award for that play. Huge shift in momentum.

How you liking the squad after the first game?

Got some real ball hawks at corner, should be a pretty fun season defensively

Louisville prepares in hopes of winning second Governor's Cup in a row against Kentucky
Courier-Journal

Louisville, KY – The Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats will square off in the 34th annual running of the Governor's Cup. No matter the quality of either team, this game is always one of the most high-stakes games on their schedules. This game will be no different.

Scott Satterfield is currently 1-2 against the Wildcats as Louisville's head coach, with his first win in the rivalry coming last season after the Cardinals dominated in Lexington. Satterfield would like to lead the Cardinals to a similar result this week at home.

The Wildcats new head coach Jeff Traylor enters the rivalry with a fresh record. Traylor left the UTSA Roadrunners and has taken the helm in Lexington with high ambitions in regards to the rivalry. Earlier in the season when he was asked about the importance of the game with Kentucky's interstate rivals, Traylor set a high standard for himself and his team. "As long as I'm coaching, that game is a must-win for us." said Traylor, "This rivalry is a part of school tradition for both universities. The drama from one sport will spill into others, the entire state is invested in both the football and basketball game. We plan on heading up to Louisville and making a statement."

Louisville enters the game trailing the Wildcats in the series 17-16. In the entire series, the Cardinals have never failed to follow up on a win, excluding their win in 2017 (Scott Satterfield's first season followed).

Kickoff of the 34th Governor's Cup will be start at 12:00 PM Eastern Time in Louisville, Kentucky at Cardinal Stadium.

Cardinals Prepare For Rematch Against Sam Howell and Tar Heels, Hope To Repeat Upset
Courier-Journal

Louisville, KY – The stage is set for a rematch of last season's upset in North Carolina between ACC foes Louisville and North Carolina. Much like last year, the Cardinals will hit the road as the underdogs and hope to notch Scott Satterfield's first win against a top five team of the season.

The Tar Heels are once again led by last year's Maxwell Award recipient QB Sam Howell, who earned several other honors for his last campaign as a Junior with the Tar Heels. Howell has already gotten off to a similar start in his senior campaign, completing 56 of his 92 passes for 737 yards and throwing 11 touchdowns. Howell also leads the Tar Heels in rushing, earning four touchdowns on 232 yards and 38 attempts.

Despite his success, the Cardinals were all headache for Howell in last season's meeting. Howell will undoubtedly be seeking vengeance and retribution after Louisville forced four interceptions in last season's upset.

The Cardinals enter the game with two wins and a loss against their interstate-rival, the Kentucky Wildcats. Similarly to last season, the Cardinals are dealing with turnover issues and an inability to convert on valuable red-zone opportunities. Cardinal QB Evan Conley enters the game with six interceptions, although four of those were forced by the Wildcats. If the Cardinals wish to be successful against teams like North Carolina, NC State, and Clemson, the offense must be more disciplined with the ball. Conley threw 19 interceptions in his Sophomore campaign (while sharing snaps with former Cardinal QB Malik Cunningham) and is currently on pace to throw even more picks at this rate.

On the bright side, despite losing most of last season's defensive leadership, several Cardinals appear to be candidates for All-ACC and potentially national honors. Defensive newcomers like Junior CB Trey Franklin and true LB Freshman Barrett Odom are already key-players for this Cardinal defense. Returning starters Junior CB Greedy Vance and Senior LB K.J. Cloyd continue to build on last season's form. The aggressive ball-hawk 4-3 defense currently leads the NCAA and interceptions. However, most of this success came against lower prestige teams like Marshall and Florida International, while the defense struggled to contain the Kentucky Wildcats.

Can the Louisville defense contain QB Sam Howell and establish themselves as a top-25 defense, or will Howell spoil the party by getting payback for last year's meeting?

Kickoff in Chapel Hill, North Carolina will be at 2:05 PM.
