Howard returns to the big dance, March Madness as fourteenth seed against Gonzaga
Stephen Israel -- HBCU Gameday Sports Writer

It's starting to feel a lot like 1992.

The Howard Bison's men's basketball team has won the most games in a single season since 1992 while winning the MEAC Championship and making it to the NCAA tournament, feats it hadn't accomplished since their '92 season.

After winning the MEAC in North Carolina, Howard will be returning to the Tar Heel State to play No. 3 Gonzaga in Greensboro Coliseum. The Bison are in the same bracket as cross-town Georgetown who face No. 6 Tennessee in the first round. Howard head coach Isaiah Mohammed played at Georgetown and was an assistant there as well under both John Thompson Jr. and John Thompson III.

Howard, Tennessee State and Jackson State are the only HBCUs in this year's NCAA Tournament.

Howard's Mohammed to interview for Nevada, Wichita State openings among others
Stephen Israel -- HBCU Gameday Sports Writer

In just two seasons, Isaiah Mohammed has turned Howard's struggling basketball program into a conference champion and in the second half, went blow for blow with Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament.

To the victor, goes the spoil.

Mohammed is expected to interview for head coach openings at Wichita State, Hofstra and Nevada. Mohammed has also been identified as a leading candidate for both Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman although a formal interview has not been scheduled.

According to those close to the program, the expectations are for Mohammed to return next season as Howard's head coach as he has ties to the Washington D.C. community as he played high school basketball in the area and went to college in Georgetown where he returned to coach prior to taking the head coaching job at Howard two seasons ago.
