The Los Angeles Lakers might have just given up on the rest of the season. After losing to the Rockets, 111-97, word got around that LeBron James might decide to sit out the rest of this year. James signed a new three-year contract in the offseason worth $171 million and at age 40 he's thinking of the best way to get those last two years out of him. The Lakers are not a playoff team and let's face it they have yet to develop any kind of consistency with the core group. Perhaps looking bad is the three-team trade that brought Trae Young to the Lakers. The Lakers are 10-15 since the trade and are now 13th in the Western Conference. They are two games behind the Pelicans for the 10th seed and a play-in tournament berth. They finish the month of February with a 3-7 record. They are in last place in their division and are now 12-18 at home on the season. They are 28th in scoring, they average the least amount of three-pointers made per game at 8.6 and least amount of three-pointers attempted per game at 23.7. They average the fewest number of offensive rebounds per game by any team at 8.0. They average the fewest steals per game at 5.4. They average the fewest second change points per game at 6.3 and their bench points per game at 26.5 is 28th in the league. Now that we got that out of the way, tonight's game stats. What a difference 48 hours makes. Thursday night the Lakers were concerned, heads down and shaking following a loss to the Houston Rockets, then came Saturday night and a chance to get even. The Lakers jumped out in front very quickly and took a thirteen-point lead into the second quarter. The Lakers had this game in the bag. Trae Young led the Lakers with 38 points, two rebounds and six assists. Anthony Davis was all over the stat sheet tonight, finishing with 18 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. LeBron James put up 16 points along with nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Alperen Sengun led the Rockets with 38 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. Fred VanVleet was the only other Rocket to reach double figures with 13 points. The Lakers don't get a chance to rest just yet, they host the Oklahoma City Thunder here at Crypto.com Arena.
