Lakers close out Spurs set with fourth straight win

A few weeks ago the Lakers looked like a team with no direction. Fast forward to tonight and they have won three in a row with their eyes set on a fourth and closing out the back-to-back set with the Spurs. It was a pretty tight first half, but the Lakers got some separation before halftime, taking a nine-point lead, 67-58. During the third quarter the Lakers increased their lead outscoring the Spurs by 16. The Lakers led by as many as 27 points, which was the margin of victory as the Lakers took the season series from the Spurs with a 127-100 win. Buddy Hield led the Lakers tonight in scoring with 28 points, hitting 10-of-17 from the field and 6-of-12 from the three-point line. Anthony Davis recorded a 20/20 game with 21 points and 20 rebounds. Trae Young finished with 20 points and 13 assists while LeBron James scored 20 points, 16 of those coming in the first half. Max Christie put up 17 points and Gabe Vincent added 12. Victor Wembanyama led all scorers with 36 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to along with 5 blocks. Keldon Johnson finished with 14 points and five rebounds and Jeremy Sochan had 11 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Lakers now at 35-37 have moved into the 9th seed and are a game and a half behind Sacramento for the 8th seed. With ten games left in the regular season the Lakers still have multiple games against three opponents (Memphis, Golden State and Utah). The Lakers are six games behind the Thunder who currently sit in the 6th seed, but those two teams will play each other on Friday when the Lakers come into town.

The Los Angeles Lakers looked like they were on a roll, but they hit a bump in the road Wednesday night that was the Portland Trail Blazers. Once upon a time it felt like the Lakers could never win a game in Portland, but they have since erased that narrative. Coming into the game riding a four game winning streak and getting themselves back into playoff contention, the Lakers looked primed to extend their longest winning steak of the season, but the Blazers proved to be a little more tougher on this night as they defeated the Lakers by the final score of 123-103. Deandre Ayton led the Blazers with 32 points, hitting 15-of-19 shots from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds. Anfernee Simons scored 29 points and dished out five assists. Shaedon Sharpe put up 16 points, including 4-of-6 from the three-point line. LeBron James led the Lakers with 27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal. Trae Young put up 22 points, two rebounds and nine assists. Anthony Davis was held to 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Lakers will try to rebound from this loss and get back on the winning track on Friday when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight, 133-116 and were without LeBron James who sat out the game and Max Christie who is dealing with an injury. Chet Holmgren led the Thunder with 25 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and four blocks. Lugentz Dort put up 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Russell Westbrook looked like his old form scoring 20 points and dishing out 12 assists. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 19 points and nine assists. Trae Young led the Lakers with 25 points and 10 assists. Anthony Davis scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Lakers kept it close in the first half, but in the third quarter the Thunder scored 46 points and ran away with the game.
