Season 4, Episode 7

“I’m just saying, we don’t have to lie about who she was.”

Yassy pressed her fingertips against her temple, the conversation irking her very being, “What the fuck does that have to do with anything?”

“A lot,” James snickered, “Amy my girl, y’all know that but let’s call a spade a spade, bruh.”

“That’s what I’m saying,” D.J. was glad to have someone in his corner, “Whatever happened up there, you know as much as I do so I don’t know why y’all acting like us saying we just don’t know if that really happened is a problem.”

The private hearings hadn’t remained so, with word of Amy’s complaint quickly spreading beyond the locker room and into the student body. The traumatic event had become fodder for gossip and food hall conversations with each side equally fervent in their respective positions.

Kam, forever Switzerland, minded the food in front of him instead, lodging one Air Pod into his ear which aided little in drowning out the conversation.

“Y’all know some of them players get down like that,” Tess contested, “You wouldn’t let them date y’all sister or nothing.”

“If a nigga was on some weirdo shit, I’ll violate that nigga myself,” James countered, “Y’all keep acting like we just saying that no nigga never did nothing wrong. We don’t fuck with them nasty niggas, we just don’t know in this situation if they are nasty niggas.”

“She said she got a video of it,” D.J. jumped in, “Where’s the video?”

“That’s not what she said,” Yassy reinserted herself into the conversation, everyone regurgitating second and third hand information, “She said one of them recorded it, obviously they already deleted that shit.”

“What nigga is going to violate a girl and record it?” James held his hands to his face in confusion, “That don’t even make no fucking sense, bruh.”

“The girl wanted to fuck every position on the team,” D.J. relayed, “She always drunk as hell and always trying to fuck something. She probably did some more freaky shit than she usually did, woke up and was tight that them niggas recorded it.”

“You’re such a fucking idiot,” Yassy shook her head as she got up from the table, not bothering to gather her tray.

Kam stood up as well, dapping up his teammates who continued the debate with Tess, now outnumbered. He threw away both of their trays, picking up his pace to catch up to her as she reached the door, pulling down on her coat as the oncoming winter greeted them.

“I don’t know why you hang out with them,” Yassy chastised Kam, who was taken aback.

“I met you through them,” Kam replied, “It ain’t like I’m the one that introduced y’all, y’all was already cool.”

“Tess is cool with them, not me,” frustration still evident in her voice.

“I don’t know why you’re letting them get you upset and shit,” Kam shrugged as they began their walk back to their dorm, Kam in desperate need of some rest before practice, “They pretty much suspended them boys already, they didn’t even dress last week.”

“Who gives a fuck about a football game,” she scoffed, “Not like y’all are good anyway.”

Kam ignored the comment, mainly because it was true.

“I’m just saying, we really don’t know what happened,” he reasoned, “I don’t even know if she ever really went to the lake for real, she was pretty gone that night, you remember her walking all crooked and shit.”

“She wasn’t with the group for a while,” she countered, “So, clearly she went somewhere and so did some of those football players.”

“I didn’t see shit,” Kam insisted, “And that’s exactly what I told the coaches, so I don’t see why everybody feel the need to get involved or have an opinion on something that don’t got nothing to do with them.”

“You what?” she stopped walking, grabbing Kam’s arm, “You were at the hearing?”

“No,” he clarified, “But the coaches came to talk to me before all of that and asked for my side of things since she was saying that I saw her go up there.”

“What did you tell them?”

“The truth,” Kam’s tone got defensive, “I didn’t see shit and I didn’t. It wasn’t like she was hanging out with our group that night, she was with a bunch of other niggas. Shit, I was with you.”

“Kam,” Yassy tried to her best to hold in her frustration, “If she said you were a witness and you told them that you weren’t, you’re making that girl out to be a liar.”

“Maybe she is,” Kam fired back, “I’m not saying that she is or she isn’t, we just don’t fucking know so can we stop fucking arguing about this shit?”

“No, we can’t.”

“You don’t even like that girl,” Kam threw his hands up.

“I don’t have to like someone to protect them,” her voice broke, “I know what it feels like to…the world is questioning every fucking thing about what happened to you…if it even happened…did you ask for it...are you just scared of being called a hoe…I know what that feels like, Kam, and trust me, no one ever asks for that feeling, just because they regretted a bad hook up."
