Season 5, Episode 1
“They broke y’all off in there?”

“I wish,” Kam scoffed, dapping up his roommate Kyrie, “Just more of the same shit from the other orientation.”

“If I ever hit the portal, I’m getting a bag,” commented Rasheem, drawing looks from the rest of the group.

“Nigga, you just got here,” Ashley expressed what was on everyone’s mind, as she often did, “The portal isn’t everything it’s cracked out to be.”

“You know them down south boys be feeling out of place,” Marlon chimed in, “This is a different type of country.”

“Raheem used to plantations and shit,” Kyrie never missed an opportunity to crack jokes on the freshman quarterback’s home state, “Our white folks at least got the decency to keep the confederate flag at home!”

“You’re just going to let them jump me?” Raheem turned towards Kam, one of the few out of state players that wasn’t from a surrounding state like Ohio or Tennessee.

“You don’t say shit when they make fun of my Timbs,” Kam countered, “And I’m not even from New York!”

“Same shit,” Ashley waved him off, “I’m running late, please don’t get arrested before the season starts, okay?”

She kissed her boyfriend, Kyrie, goodbye before joining the mass of bodies that were filtering in and out of the student center.

“I thought she was cooking for us tonight,” Marlon sucked his teeth, keen on keeping on the weight he had worked so hard in the summer to put on.

“That was some ‘I miss you’ shit,” Kyrie laughed, “And her offseason training about to start for real? I’ll be lucky to see her, let alone y’all.”

“Is the season really that crazy?” Rasheem asked Kam, the only one in the group that had gone through a college season, “We’re all probably going to redshirt but still, everyone talks about that bitch like its hell.”

“It goes by fast,” Kam shrugged, “You don’t really have time to like process everything really, you’re just going from game to treatment to game planning for the next game and next thing you know, the first quarter already over with.”

“Coach said if you’re starting or not?” asked Marlon, likely looking down at the barrel of a redshirt year as well.

“Ain’t no starters according to coach,” Kyrie interjected, “But we all know who is getting the most carries.”

“What you mean?” Kam laughed, “Jason nice as fuck too.”

“Man,” Kyrie sucked his teeth, “Coach love your ass, always talking about ‘watch Kam here’ like nigga, we running backs, of course I’m watching the only running back on the field.”

“They hate on a young nigga shining,” Marlon joked, “They be hating on me, too, so I feel your pain, brother.”

“Shut your fat ass up,” Rasheem jumped in as the group erupted into laughter.

Season 5, Episode 2
“I mean, it’s the same team I’d be playing back at Muncie and shit.”

“So, you left me to play the same game?” Yassy teased, trying to hold back her smile, “It’s still impressive, Kam.”

“Thanks,” Kam blushed, “I don’t think I’ve ever scored four touchdowns before, not since like I was a jit or something.”

“Jit? Boy, you were down there in Florida for just a week,” she sucked her teeth.

“What do you know about South Florida lingo? Should I be worried? You know I’ll comb through the entire roster to see which young bull they brought in from Miami,” Kam joked, drawing a playful punch to the arm from Yassy.

“I choose up, not down, sweetie.”

“I ain’t gotta worry about a thing then,” Kam dusted his hands off.

“You sure don’t,” she leaned in, giving him a light kiss before drawing back, “What we do need to talk about is all the girls that were screaming and shit every time you scored.”

“You mean the cheerleaders?”

“I was in the stands, it wasn’t just them,” Yassy laughed, “It’s a lot of fine women, Kam, a lot of them.”

“Oh, god.”

“I’m just saying,” she shrugged, “The track girl, Ashley? She was fine as fuck, really all the girls I met tonight were.”

“Should I be worried about you switching teams?” Kam raised his eyebrow and crossed his arms for dramatic effect.

“Strictly dickly,” she answered before catching herself, “Well, sort of.”

“Oh shit!”

“Not like that,” she quickly corrected, her tone changing a bit, “You know what I mean.”

“I know,” he laid back into the bed, enjoying the privacy of having his own room, one of the perks of SEC living compared to the shared rooms at Ball State, “I ain’t going to try nothing tonight, you can rest easy.”

“You say that now,” she reached for her bonnet, “But halfway through the night, it’s some hard dick pressed up against my back.”

“Can’t blame a brother now,” Kam held his hands up, flashing his smile.

“I’d be more worried if you didn’t.”

“Not no real rivalry game,” Kam shrugged, “The Miami Ohio game was the most packed, but that shit wasn’t nothing crazy or nothing.”

“It’s going to be fucking stupid in there,” Kyrie replied, “I was there two years ago the last time it was here, probably the loudest I’ve ever heard that stadium.”

“I thought Louisville was the big one,” Kam took a glance at the clock, counting down the minutes in the ice tub, “My homeboy plays for them.”

“It’s up with them niggas too,” Kyrie jokingly held up both middle fingers.

“Number zero be hawking shit down,” Kyrie looked up towards the monitor, replays from the Volunteers’ game against Houston on display.

The linebacker was an impressive specimen, popping on film whenever you turned it on, even if he wasn’t directly involved in the play.

The four-touchdown performance was more than welcomed but did little to ease Kam’s nerves with an SEC showdown on the horizon with memories of closing gaps and brute physicality still etched in Kam’s mind and that was against the lesser Tennessee school.

Kam was eager to change the subject, “How long you and your girl been at it?”

“You know how that shit is,” Kyrie scoffed, picking at his curls, “We’ve been fucking with each other for a minute, middle school type shit. Shit didn’t really get serious until she got the offer from Texas, that’s when I knew I had to lock shit down before she went down there.”

Kam could relate, he had those similar feelings when Lana got accepted into NYU but never pulled the trigger.

“I know that was a long ass year,” Kam looked off into the distance, more so commenting on his future than Kyrie’s past.

“Man,” Kyrie threw his head back, “I might never get on FaceTime ever again, bruh. That shit was so aggravating, and a nigga had to turn down so much pussy, bruh. You can at least fly your girl out with your NIL and shit.”

“Why does everyone think I get paid like that?” Kam laughed it off, “I got one NIL deal, bro.”

“Not for long,” Kyrie scoffed, “Man, just retweet another school’s post and they’re going to double and triple your shit.”

“For real though,” Kam continued, “How did y’all do the long distance, just FaceTime and shit?”

“I ain’t even the right person to walk you through this, OG, because there’s a reason she’s here now and not at Texas anymore. I couldn’t do that shit, not with all this ass running around here.”
