Moving up the UFL prospect board on us with that performance! Now mocked as the second running back off the board to the Michigan Panthers.

Season 6, Episode 18
Kam glanced at his phone - three hours had crawled by, each minute stretching like molasses. The Colts game had come and gone and the afternoon games on NFL RedZone were no better, barely holding his attention.

She laid on the couch next to him, her eyes distant, focused on some invisible point beyond the peeling wallpaper. The silence between them felt thick, oppressive. Kam cleared his throat.

"So, uh, you coming to the game Saturday?" he ventured, forcing a smile. "They gave me a couple of suite tickets, my pops and them are coming. They got an extra room and everything in the Air BnB or I could get you your own hotel room or…”

Yassy blinked, seeming to remember his presence. "Oh. I don't know, Kam. You know how end of semesters are."

Kam's smile faltered. There it was again - that vague excuse, that wall she'd been putting up for weeks now. He'd hoped seeing her in person would change things, but if anything, the distance between them felt even greater.

"I just figured you’d want to go," he said, unable to keep the edge from his voice. "I’ll even fly out Tess, y’all can stay in New Orleans if you want, I know her ass would tear up the city.”

She forced a dry laugh, "She probably needs to study more than me.”

Kam ran a hand through his dreads, frustration bubbling up inside him. The coaching staff had allowed him to venture off from campus, his one chance to see her, and it felt like he was talking to a stranger. He stood abruptly, the couch groaning in protest.

"I should probably get going," he said, reaching for his jacket.

Yassy's eyes widened, a flicker of something - panic? regret? - crossing her face. She felt like telling him, she wanted to tell him.

But she couldn’t.

“Drive safe. Let me know when you get home.”

"Ay yo, Sandra! Come get this money, girl!" Malik yelled, grinning widely as he waved a fistful of bills.

Snow shook his head, a smirk playing on his lips. He turned his attention to the bartender who was nervously polishing the same glass over and over.

“Yo,” Snow called out, “Hit me with that Henny.”

Ravie's hands shook slightly as she reached for the bottle.

"Why you back here when you could be out there?" he remarked, eyeing her up and down.

Ravie's eyes darted up, then quickly back down as she poured the drink into his glass. "I-I'm just the bartender," she stammered.

Snow leaned in closer, his cologne mingling with the scent of alcohol and sweat. "Nah, I mean why you ain't dancing? Body like that, you'd be making triple what you do pouring drinks."

Ravie's cheeks flushed, her grip tightening on the glass. "I don't... I mean, I've never..."

"You ain’t never pour a drink until you did it, right?" Snow's grin widened, revealing a gold tooth.

“I don’t know,” she laughed nervously, “I don’t know if I’d be good at it.”

“You look familiar,” he continued, his reputation felt with every word that came from his mouth, “You stay at the Gardens?”

“I don’t,” she shook her head, wishing the conversation would end.

“You don’t want to talk to me or something?”

Ravie's heart pounded in her chest, her palms growing slick with sweat. She could feel Snow's eyes boring into her, his presence looming large despite the bar between them.

Felix had been watching the interaction from the corner of his eye. He'd seen that look on Snow's face before - predatory, hungry. And he'd seen that look on a girl’s face too many times to count - fear poorly masked by forced politeness.

With a deep breath, Felix waddled over, his polyester shirt straining against his belly. "Big dog," he said, forcing a jovial tone. "Don't mind Ravie here. She's new, still learning the ropes. Ain't used to talking to VIPs like yourself."

Snow's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenching as he turned to face Felix. The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees. "The fuck you saying?" Snow growled, his voice low and dangerous. "You think I can't tell when a bitch is scared?"

Felix's fake smile faltered, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple. "N-no, that's not what I-"

"Nah, shut the fuck up," Snow cut him off, rising to his full height, "You don't need to apologize for her. She's doing her goddamn job, pouring drinks and keeping her mouth shut. That's what I come her for."

Ravie stood frozen behind the bar, her eyes darting between Snow and Felix.

“I ain’t mean nothing by it,” Felix's face had gone pale, a sheen of sweat glistening on his forehead.

Snow grabbed his drink, downing it in one gulp. He slammed the glass on the bar, making Ravie jump. "Another," he growled, his eyes never leaving Felix's face. "Me and you, we’re going to need to revisit our arrangement one of these days.”

The private room hummed with the low murmur of conversation and the clink of silverware against fine china. He glanced around the table, taking in the faces of the boosters - men in crisp suits with tanned, weathered faces that spoke of long days on golf courses and yachts.

“I want to walk out of here with a deal,” Mark began, “And you guys want to walk out of here with a deal. Those are the type of tables I love being around.”

Nods of agreement rippled around the table. Mark could see the hunger in their eyes, the barely contained excitement at the prospect of landing one of college football’s top running backs. But there was hesitation there too, a wariness that needed to be addressed.

"The off the field stuff," he continued, cutting into his perfectly seared redfish. "It’s way overblown, you’ve seen the production."

The silver-haired banker with a face like tanned leather, leaned forward. "I mean, come on. We’ve all heard the stories, the reports that never made it to the police desk."

Mark took a sip of his drink, buying himself a moment to collect his thoughts. The ice clinked against the glass, a sound that seemed to echo in the sudden silence.

"He’s never missed a game, never been suspended. It’s a non-starter, period.”

The boosters exchanged glances, shaking their heads.

"Kam's not just a football player," Mark continued, his voice taking on a passionate edge. "This is a kid that lost both of his parents in a car accident, had to take the long road to end up at Kentucky and you see how well he’s doing and that’s not even a serious football program. Now put him in a positive environment like Ann Arbor, around the structure that you guys can provide and your million dollar investment might be coming back to you in the form of a bronze statue and a gold trophy by this time next year."
