Patriots' offensive struggles continue in loss to Rodgers, Jets
It wasn't quite the homecoming performance that Aaron Rodgers envisioned, making his first start at home since his injury but he managed to get the job done.

The star quarterback threw a touchdown pass while being showered with “Aa-ron! Rod-gers!” chants throughout, New York’s defense was dominant and the Jets survived a 16-11 game over the New England Patriots in their home opener Thursday night.

“It was a really special night,” Rodgers said. “All those chants are really meaningful.”

Rodgers started his first game at MetLife Stadium since leaving the field just over a year ago with a torn Achilles tendon in New York's opener. The 40-year old quarterback threw an early interception and the Jets passing game never got going, being held to 5.7 yards per attempt but showed signs of its potential in an impressive eleven play drive in the second quarter that culminated with a touchdown pass to Tyler Conklin. The Jets converted on two third downs that drive with passes to Allen Lazard who finished the game with 97 yards receiving.

The Patriots offense was somehow worse, failing to score from the goal line and turning the ball over on downs early in the first quarter. The offense would come to life in its second to last possession of the game, making it a one possession game after completions of 22 and 10 yards, along with an eleven yard scramble by quarterback Jacoby Brissett got the ball on the one yard line where Rhamondre Stevenson would punch it in.

New England would attempt the onside kick which was recovered by the Jets who kicked a field goal to extend their lead to five points with less than a minute left. After an eighteen yard completion to Ja'Lynn Polk to make a heave into the endzone feasible, Brissett would throw his second interception of the day.

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo wasn't sure he would be making a quarterback change any time soon.

“I don't know,” the first-year coach said. “We talk every single week that you’re competing for a job. We’ll get together as a coaching staff and see where it goes.”
