‣ NFL 2024 Regular Season, Week 6 - Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachussets
(4-2) Houston Texans at New England Patriots (1-5)
HOU | 7 | 13 | 3 | 3 | 26
NE | 0 | 3 | 7 | 0 | 10

Drake Maye makes NFL debut, spells Jacoby Brissett in 26-10 loss to Texans
It didn't take long for the Houston Texans to place their foot on New England's necks, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown to quell any excitement for a midseason upset.
The Texans would cruise to a 26-10 victory over the Patriots as C.J. Stroud threw for 276 yards and Joe Mixon reached the endzone in a ho-hum game for Houston.
Drake Maye, the No. 3 overall pick in April, made his NFL debut when he replaced Jacoby Brissett — who was 10 of 16 for 97 yards with an interception — in the third quarter after Houston fell into a 23-3 hole. Maye's first pass was a 15-yard completion to Antonio Gibson and then found Kendrick Bourne for 24 yards. A few plays later, he would convert a 3rd and 11 with a seventeen yard completion to Gibson again and two plays later, found Austin Hooper in the back of the endzone for the six-yard touchdown.
Maye finished 8 of 12 for 101 yards and was sacked twice, including on fourth down in his second and last possession of the game. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said after the game that Maye showed promising signs but that he was not making a quarterback change at the moment.
"It was an opportunity to get him into the game," Mayo said, “We talk every single week that you’re competing for a job. We’ll get together as a coaching staff and see where it goes.”

He can perform, it seems like. At some point, gotta get him in and let him take his lumps.

New England deals receiver K.J. Osborn to New Orleans in exchange of draft picks
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- – The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver K.J. Osborn to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for the Saints' third-round pick in next year's draft. The Patriots are also sending a fourth and two seventh round picks as part of the deal.
Osborn, who signed with New England this past offseason, spent the previous four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings where he crossed paths with current Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Osborn's receiver coach during his rookie season, Andrew Janocko, is now the Saints' quarterback's coach.
On the season, Osborn is averaging 36.7 yards per game with only Chris Olave currently averaging more yards per game on the Saints' roster. Osborn's reliability and familiarity with the Saints offense under Kubiak likely led to the Saints pulling the trigger as they look to keep pace in the NFC South divisional race.
For New England, the writing might have been on the wall for Osborn who saw his role diminish in the last two games with no receptions after starting the season with four consecutive games of at least three receptions for 40 yards. Osborn played just four snaps against Houston with the return of Kendrick Bourne.

Patriots' Jerod Mayo Announces Drake Maye as Starting QB for London Game Against Jaguars
London, England – As expected, New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo has announced that rookie quarterback Drake Maye will start in the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. This decision comes after a series of underwhelming performances by veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who has struggled to ignite the Patriots' offense this season.
Mayo, in a press conference held earlier today, emphasized the need for a change to spark the team's stagnant offense. "We need to give Drake a chance to show what he can do," Mayo said. "He's been preparing diligently, and it's time we see what he can bring to the table."
Maye, the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been waiting for his opportunity to shine. His first taste of NFL action came last week against the Houston Texans, leading the Patriots to a scoring drive and showed his ability to extend plays behind a porous offensive line. Despite the limited playing time, Maye has impressed coaches and teammates alike with his poise and potential.
The decision to start Maye also aligns with the Patriots' long-term vision. The team has been preparing him for this moment, ensuring he's ready to take on the challenges of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.
"Drake has shown great maturity and understanding of our offense," Mayo added. "We believe he's ready to lead this team."
The Patriots' offense has been one of the lowest-scoring in the league this season, and the hope is that Maye's fresh perspective and dynamic playmaking ability will provide the spark needed to turn things around. The Jaguars, on the other hand, will be looking to capitalize on any potential growing pains Maye might experience in his first start.
As the Patriots gear up for their international showdown, all eyes will be on Maye to see if he can live up to the expectations and lead his team to victory. The game promises to be an exciting one, with both teams eager to secure a win on foreign soil.
