Miami Hurricanes Hire Skylor Magee as New Defensive Coordinator
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer
The Miami Hurricanes have announced the hiring of Skylor Magee as their new defensive coordinator, replacing Lance Guidry, who has been hired as the head coach at TCU. Magee, who most recently served as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Liberty University, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the Hurricanes' coaching staff.
Magee's journey in college football has seen him work under several successful head coaches, including Jamey Chadwell at Charleston Southern, Delta State, and North Greenville. His time at Liberty was particularly notable, as he helped lead the Flames to an undefeated regular season back in 2023 and a victory in the Conference USA Football Championship game.
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal expressed his excitement about Magee's hiring, stating, "Skylor Magee is a fantastic addition to our coaching staff. His experience and success at multiple programs speak for themselves. We're confident that he will help us build a dominant defense and continue our pursuit of championships."
Last year under Magee's tutelage, the Flames were the top ranked scoring defense in Conference USA, allowing 20.2 points per game. His defense features a multitude of fronts with a three-man front as the base which would be a deviation from what the Hurricanes have traditionally ran.

Emory Williams enters portal with likely reunion with Shannon Dawson as five juniors enter the draft
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer
Miami redshirt junior quarterback Emory Williams will be playing his final season elsewhere as he enters the transfer portal with many expecting him to reunite with former Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson in Oklahoma.
Williams is one of two players to enter the transfer portal, the other being another quarterback in Titus Willis. Willis, a four-star coming out of high school, redshirted as a freshman before not appearing in a game this past season.
The Hurricanes are also losing five underclassmen to the draft with Marquise Lightfoot, as expected, entering the draft along with fellow defensive lineman Justin Scott. The other three are linebacker Adarius Hayes, running back Jordan Lyle and receiver Chance Robinson.
Many thought receiver Jeremiah Smith would declare early, even with the injury, but the talented junior has decided to return for his senior year with the Hurricanes.
