How will Miami balance needing more depth while avoiding a logjam for talented young players?
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
It's transfer portal season and the Miami Hurricanes are in an interesting position, still needing more firepower to combat the likes of Georgia while being loaded on the backend of their roster with young talent that also need opportunity to shine and develop.
No position is that more clearer than at running back where the Hurricanes have two blue-chip underclassmen in Deron Tryon and Maurice Rugamba but with the loss of Mark Fletcher to graduation and Jordan Lyle to the draft, Miami could use someone like Isaac Brown, the fourth ranked running back in the transfer portal. Would Brown be open to coming to Miami, knowing that he'll need to share carries with Tryon, Rugamba and even senior Chris Johnson Jr?
This is the case at several positions where Miami might want to bolster their trenches on both sides of the football via the transfer portal but have plenty of young talent there too. The same can be said for the secondary where they are losing four starters in Damari Brown, Dontae Balfour, Jaden Harris and Marquise Williams but what does adding a veteran defensive back or two do to the development of Paul Webb, Tommy Stacy, LaMarcus Cook, Paul Rhinehart or Alec Lawrence?

Former Miami quarterback Emory Williams to transfer to Oklahoma
Manny Ledo -- The Miami Herald Sports Columnist
As expected, former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Emory Williams has transferred to Oklahoma, reuniting with former offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.
Dawson, who was the offensive coordinator at Miami for Williams' first two years there, was hired by the Sooners to replace Brent Venables after spending one season as TCU's head coach. He led the Horned Frogs to eight wins and lands a big time commitment from Williams to replace Jace Arnold as the Sooners' likely starting quarterback.
Williams started all fourteen games last year for the Hurricanes with new offensive coordinator Chris Weinke who replaced Dawson but split time with freshman Keke Hagg who played in all but two games for the Hurricanes. Hagg had a higher passer rating and yards per attempts and trailed Williams by just one touchdown despite having over 200 less pass attempts.
Under Dawson, Williams averaged more yards per game, more yards per attempt with a higher passer rating and completion percentage as a starter in 2024, replacing senior Nicholas Vattiato and leading Miami to a playoff win.

Two Sunshine State transfers return home with commitment to Miami as Hurricanes improve depth
Carlos Navarro -- The Athletic Staff Writer
Three-star transfer portal receiver William Fowles and three-star safety Jalon Thompson have both committed to the University of Miami, becoming the first transfer portal additions of this cycle for the Hurricanes.
Fowles, who is from Hialeah and played at Dade Christian, has had a long road to play for his hometown team. He committed to Louisville out of high school as a four-star prospect before transferring to App State for one year before spending another year at nearby Florida Atlantic before hopping back into the portal. An impressive looking receiver at six-foot-three and 205 pounds, Fowles fills the void left by Isaiah Horton and Chance Robinson as an outside receiver capable of making contest catches and a red zone target. He has one year of eligibility left.
Thompson has two more years after spending the past two years at North Carolina. Thompson has an intriguing athletic profile with verified sub-11 times in the 100m and sub-22 in the 200 meter, Thompson is a gifted athlete with impressive speed and change of direction. The Hurricanes add a much needed veteran to a safety room that's pretty young after losing Markeith Williams and Jaden Harris to graduation.
Florida State and Tulane were involved in Thompson's recruitment while for Fowles, Temple and USF were interested.

Miami told Isaac Brown 'no' before, will he return the favor as a coveted running back in the portal?
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports Miami Insider
Coming out of Homestead High School, Isaac Brown did not even register a visit to the University of Miami. The Hurricanes, at the time, had top-10 running back Kevin Riley committed and were zeroing in on Jordan Lyle as well in case Riley, who is from Alabama, flipped to one of the in-state programs.
Riley would eventually jump ship, committing to the Crimson Tide as Miami were able to get Lyle to flip his commitment from Ohio State. Miami was only going to take two running backs that cycle and with Chris Wheatley-Humphrey already committed, Miami told Brown 'thanks but we're okay', never turning tup the heat in his commitment.
He'd end up at Louisville, turning himself into one of the better running backs in the ACC by the time he jumped into the portal, earning himself a four-star status. Florida and UCF were early favorites but it's Miami, two years later, that has secured a visit thus far.
"It's all love," Brown said of his visit to the Hurricanes, "They can't sign everyone out of South Florida, it'd be great if they could but I understood then and I understand now."
Brown told CBS Sports that he intends to visit Florida and UCF before making a decision and that he does not hold any grudges towards Miami or their coaching staff for not recruiting him. He spoke fondly of his visit and said that he can envision himself playing in Miami's offense which has an emphasis on the running game.
