Hurricanes blow fourteen point lead in the fourth quarter against Utah
A dropped interception turned into a first down reception. Holding penalties that took potential points off the board. A busted screen play that resulted in an interception. Three downs to pick up two yards and coming up short.
The Miami Hurricanes will have plenty of time to think about how they squandered away a game that was in the bag, surrendering fifteen unanswered points in the final eleven minutes of the game in the 18-17 loss to Utah on Saturday.
The Hurricanes were leading by four points and on Utah's 33-yard line with eight minutes remaining when back to back holding penalties took them out of field goal range and forced them to punt the ball.
Miami linebacker Jacques Turk nearly ended all hopes of a comeback with an interception on third and fifteen but would drop the pass right into Neeko Wynn's hands, who was stopped a yard short of the first down, only for Henry Hasselbeck to find tight end C.J. Jacobsen for the fourth down conversion one play later.
Hasselbeck would find David Washington for the 23-yard touchdown to make it a five point game with 3:20 remaining.
It was yet another holding penalty that pushed Miami back to their own 17-yard line where Keke Hagg threw a screen pass to Davon Momah and Joshisa Trader failed to block the defender, who jumped it for a touchdown. It was a tough day for Trader who dropped a deep pass earlier in the game on a drive that ended with Miami turning it over on downs.
Miami was still in it with a chance to win the game on a field goal with three minutes left in the game but on the first set of downs, they were unable to pick up the first down on back-to-back runs by Isaac Brown on 2nd and two and the toss pass to Trader on fourth down was stopped short.
