Coach James Xavier's Offensive Gameplan

"Our goal all year was to keep consistent and not get too high on ourselves. Beating Ohio [Bobcats] like we did last weekend, it's extremely easy to get ahead of ourselves and think we're more impressive than we are. We beat the brakes off a team that didn't have the punch to keep up. We knew that from the get-go. Bowling Green is more impressive; they have a veteran-laden secondary, and they have an experienced defense that has played a lot of football together. We will be leaning heavily on C.J. [Hester] and running the ball. We're leading the MAC in carries for a reason. Taking care of the ball will be paramount. Execute, execute, execute."

This is how I learned that Eddie George is the coach at Bowling Green LOL.

Hopefully y’all aren’t overconfident going into this one. Just play to your capabilities and you’ve got this :yep:

Defense has been pretty capable against the run, I'm not too concerned. We show up, we run through the MAC

shoulda kept Hairston in longer and let him really cook, fuck a mercy rule

Honestly, the MAC is a cake walk minus CMU and Toledo. Somehow the Rockets always had a stud QB when I faced them with Ball State

‣ CFB 2025 Regular Season, Week 6 - Doty L. Perry Stadium, Bowling Green, Ohio
(4-0, 3-0 MAC) UMass Minutemen at Bowling Green Falcons (2-3, 1-0 MAC)

Steady offense from Haston, defensive efforts has UMass sprinting to 5-0

UMass continued its remarkable inaugural season in the MAC with a 30-14 victory over Bowling Green, improving to 6-0 and solidifying its status as one of the nation's biggest surprises in 2025. The Minutemen pushed to an early 24-0 lead in the first half and, despite a strong comeback effort from the Falcons, managed to hang on to secure the victory.

The Minutemen showed impressive maturity and cohesion for a first-year MAC program, winning with a balanced attack and disciplined defense. Quarterback Ahmad Haston managed the game efficiently and threw a key touchdown pass to T.Y. Harding, giving UMass early momentum. While the offense didn’t light up the scoreboard, it remained steady and mistake-free, allowing UMass to control the pace.

"We cleaned things up, that's for certain," commented head coach Don Brown. "I'm proud of the strong effort of the defense. They remained calm and calculated through four quarters."

"Our offense is a strength of ours, and they played like it. The defense did their part," commented offensive coordinator James Xavier. "We need to play four full quarters like we did last weekend. But, a win's a win."

A standout performance came from kicker Riley Moore, who delivered under pressure with three crucial field goals, keeping the Minutemen comfortably ahead as the game progressed. His two field goals in the second half were the only points UMass managed to score in the second half after a red-hot start in the first.

Defensively, UMass put on a clinic for containment and tackling despite not forcing any turnovers. The unit was especially stout in the second half, repeatedly stalling Bowling Green drives and forcing punts. However, Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart found success on the ground, finishing with 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns, accounting for all of the Falcons’ points.

Still, UMass held firm when it mattered most, showcasing the kind of discipline and grit rarely seen in a team this early in a conference transition. Their ability to limit big plays and control field position was pivotal in maintaining their unbeaten record.

At 6-0, UMass’s rapid development has been one of the defining stories of the MAC season. With each week, the Minutemen look more like legitimate contenders—and less like newcomers.
