Minutemen return home and pull off triumphant upset over Wolfpack, Haston plays Superman

The dynamic duo of UMass quarterback Ahmad Haston and running back C.J. Hester has pulled off the unthinkable, putting on a dominant performance to lead the upset of the year, making easy work of the number five ranked NC State to remain undefeated, winning 35-13.

One of the top ranked offenses in the nation continue to strut their stuff during a productive (albeit, dysfunctional with all of what is going on in the front office between head coach Don Brown and the currently mute offensive coordinator James Xavier) got to work in the second quarter after a scoreless duel in the first. Jalen John with his customary short yardage score and Jacquon Gibson ripping off a 30-yard pass from Haston.

“The defense really held us in check,” commented NC State Dave Doeren, devastated with the fall to UMass in his post-game press conference. “Once you’re unable to go shot-for-shot with that dynamic offense, you’ve got a bad situation on your hands.”

Whereas NC State kept running into blockades and had to keep settling for field goals, the Minutemen continued to punch it into the end zone. Five different offensive players managed touchdowns, including tight end Noah Staples and backup running back Cookie Desiderio managing to sneak one in, running through a Wolfpack linebacker.

The Minutemen will no doubt shoot up the top 25 ranking after featuring for the first time last week as they continue their Cinderella story run.

Statement from Head Coach Don Brown

Hello Minutemen faithful,

it has come to our attention that a soundbite has made its rounds around the internet that depicts myself and few different staff members with our football team saying some unfortunate things about a fellow staff member, namely offensive coordinator James Xavier. I understand the optics of this and want to remind our fans, faculty, students, and alumni that we remain steadfast in promoting a non-bullying community within our locker room.

Many of the comments were taken out of context, but I will take ownership that I personally was speaking out of frustration. It is regrettable that this private conversation was made public. I apologize for this eyesore that is negatively impacting our successful season. I also expressly apologize to James himself. He did not deserve this negative attention. He has been nothing but an absolute gentlemen through this process and has stuck to his work, executing our offense with exceptional creativity and attention to detail.

I've known James since he was a wide-eyed freshman in Ann Arbor and am blessed to still know him as the man he has become today. He has a wonderful family and I owe him a lot.

We as a staff have adjusted and will move on from this unfortunate event. We are dedicated as a staff to continue to rack up wins and reach our goal of a National Championship.
