Ingolstadt Close Dominant February with a Draw to Dortmund
Engel and Bohm continue to form an excellent 1-2 punch as the top creator and scorer respectively in Europe
Ingolstadt continued to roll through Germany and the rest of Europe in February, finishing the month with four wins and a draw. The club has reverted to using the 3-4-2-1 system on a permanent basis and it reaped results with them capturing 1-4, 4-2 and 3-0 wins in the league over Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg respectively. All three are top sides with Champions League ambitions this year, and Ingolstadt was able to dispatch them quite easily. In addition, Ingolstadt triumphed 4-0 over Borussia Monchengladbach in the DFB-Pokal before ending the month on a bit of a low, drawing Dortmund away from home after a last second goal from their Polish striker, Lukasz Wilk.
Ingolstadt ended the month top of the Bundesliga with 64 points and 99 goals in 23 matches, 16 points clear of 2nd place Dortmund with 11 matches to go. Lucas Bohm leads all scorers in the league with 36 goals, followed by fellow teammate, Marlon Engel in 2nd with 23. Engel is top of the assist charts with 23 of those as well in the Bundesliga, with the top 5 being entirely comprised of Ingolstadt players: Vincent Weber (15), Marvin Jansen (8), Lucas Bohm (8), Lenny Grüne (7) as the club continued to show its dominance in attack.
March figures to be a difficult month. Ingolstadt face FC Köln on March 1st but then have a Champions League round of 16 tie with English giant Liverpool. In between the two legs they must take on domestic giant, Bayern Munich, in a difficult league test. The club does have a couple of easier matches to close out the month afterwards with a tie against 16th place Werder Bremen on March 16th and a derby date with 11th place FC Augsburg on the 29th.
