CSU Lands First Commitment of 2024 Recruiting Class
-- Fresh off of their win in Corvallis, the Colorado State Rams coaching staff received more good news as they added the first member of their upcoming recruiting class. The Rams just received a verbal commitment from 3-star receiver Clyde Combs from Arvada, CO. Small and shifty and sporting a 5'9", 162 lb frame, Combs will come in a bit undersized for the college game and will join a WR room that will desperately need restocking after the season, with both of the Rams top 2 receivers being seniors. Combs displays a natural aptitude for route running and should be right at home at Offensive Coordinator Matt Mumme's Air Raid offense.
The Rams coaching staff is hoping that the commitment of Combs may end up being a good omen for the rest of their recruiting efforts this season. Locked in a fierce recruiting battle for several recruits between the 4 FBS schools on the Front Range, Rams head coach Jay Norvell at times this season has been frustrated by his rivals in his efforts to land some of the area's native talent. Just this week, Denver area Offensive Tackle Jameel Winton announced that he would be enrolling at Boulder in the fall, despite a heavy push from CSU.
During his recruitment, Combs had been pursued by both the Rams and the Cowboys, with Combs last week seemingly leaning towards rival Wyoming - but he changed his mind in CSU's favor after the win against Oregon State. Now that they've broken through, the CSU coaches feel that they can begin to focus their time on locking up the commitment of the rest of their targets, with the coaching staff hosting several recruits during this weekend's upcoming conference opener against San Jose State.
