I think I may try to play more defensive possessions next season to try to not be the 1985 Bears and mellow out the sliders offensively so we get better production otherwise my next job will be some high school.

Delaware ends their losing streak with a win over San Diego State in the Potato Bowl

Boise, Idaho - Delaware shook off a three-game losing skid and closed the season on a high note, grinding out a 17–7 bowl victory over San Diego State behind a resurgent ground game and a stingy defense.

The Blue Hens were without injured star running back Jo Silver, who attempted to give it a go but couldn’t stay on the field. In his absence, sophomore Saeed St. Fleur delivered the kind of performance Delaware needed, and then some. St. Fleur carried 26 times for 110 yards and two first-quarter touchdowns, powering the Hens to an early 14–0 lead they never relinquished. Oliver Redd added valuable depth with 28 yards on five carries, giving Delaware’s backfield a glimpse of the future.

Delaware stormed ahead in the opening quarter with St. Fleur scoring from 10 yards out and later from five. Nate Reed’s 21-yard field goal in the second quarter made it 17–0, but the offense stalled from there.

Quarterback Zach Marker was efficient at times but costly mistakes slowed Delaware’s momentum in the second half. Marker finished 25-of-34 for 210 yards but threw two interceptions, including one that set up San Diego State’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter, a 5-yard strike from Bert Emanuel Jr. to Jordan Napier.

Kicker Nate Reed also missed opportunities to extend the lead, twice clanging field goal attempts off the uprights in the second half.

On defense, Delaware forced two turnovers and applied steady pressure. Khalil Jenkins led the way with five tackles and an interception, while Keyshawn Hunter and Noah Matthews each recorded a sack.

Head coach Ryan Carty emphasized what the win meant after a rough November stretch:
“It’s important to build momentum going into the offseason. Wins like this get our players excited, keep guys here who might be looking at the portal, and give us momentum with recruiting.”

Offensive coordinator DJ Porter praised the backs who stepped up:
“Saeed ran with toughness, Oliver gave us great snaps, and it’s a good look at what we’ll have in the running back room next year. We know we need more consistent play at quarterback and we’ll be reloading at receiver, tight end, and along the line, but this was a step forward.”

Delaware’s bowl win closes the season on an encouraging note. With Silver’s impending departure St. Fleur and Redd’s performance offered optimism. Still, the Blue Hens will enter the offseason needing to address quarterback consistency and replacing a core of experienced seniors at the skill positions and offensive line.

For now, the 17–7 victory provides exactly what Carty wanted, a boost of confidence and momentum heading into 2026.

CARTY ACCEPTS NORTHWESTERN OC POSITION

After just one season at the FBS level, Delaware head coach Ryan Carty is on the move. Carty announced this week that he has accepted the offensive coordinator position at Northwestern, leaving behind a Blue Hens program he helped guide to one of the most memorable years in school history.

In their first campaign since making the jump from FCS, Delaware finished with an 11–3 record, appeared the Conference USA title game, and capped the season with a bowl victory over San Diego State. Carty’s balanced attack and aggressive play-calling drew national attention, particularly as the Blue Hens adapted quickly to FBS competition.

“This was the most difficult professional decision I’ve had to make,” Carty said in a prepared statement. “Delaware is a special place, and I’ll always be proud of what we accomplished together this season. But the opportunity to coach at such a prestigious institution like Northwestern was something I couldn’t pass up.”

Delaware now faces a critical offseason decision. Athletic Director Chrissi Rawak is expected to begin interviews immediately, with two internal candidates already drawing attention: offensive coordinator DJ Porter, who oversaw an offense who's 5,083 total yards was good for second best in the conference, and defensive coordinator Manny Rojas, whose defensive unit topped most categories in the conference.

Neither Porter or Rojas have held a head coaching position.

While Carty’s departure is a setback, Delaware’s debut season in FBS has raised the program’s national profile. Whoever takes over will inherit a roster facing a lot of turnover with 29 seniors and a number of players expected to dip their feet into the transfer portal.

“The goal is to keep this momentum going,” Carty said. “This team is ready to continue building something special. I’ll be rooting for them every step of the way.”
