If he cries, he cries.
You could say the same about UCLA/USC but just felt like Stanford would be more interesting.

Stanford, Kennesaw State schedule home-and-home as part of Bubba Mack buyout
ESPN News Services
August 10, 2028, 08:28 AM ET

PALO ALTO, Calif. — When Bubba Mack left Kennesaw State to become Stanford’s head coach earlier this offseason, part of the exit agreement included a home-and-home series between the two programs.
On Thursday, both schools announced the deal. Kennesaw State will travel to Stanford Stadium in 2028, with the Cardinal making the return trip to Fifth Third Bank Stadium in 2030 whom he guided from a two-win program into the College Football Playoff before accepting the Stanford job.. As part of the agreement, Kennesaw State will receive $2.2 million in combined payouts for the two games.
“This is a unique opportunity for both programs,” Stanford athletic director John Donahoe said in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome Kennesaw State to Palo Alto and to play in front of their fans down the road.”
Kennesaw State AD Milton Overton echoed the sentiment, noting the financial benefit for the Owls and the chance to host a Power Four opponent at home for the first time in program history.
“We’re grateful this series was included in Coach Mack’s transition,” Overton said. “It’s a win for our student-athletes, our fans, and our program.”
The series will mark the first-ever meetings between Stanford and Kennesaw State.

Stanford Football: 2028 Cardinal Season Preview and Prediction
Athlon Sports Staff Writer • 8 min read
Head coach: Bubba Mack (1st year)
Offensive Coordinator: Richard Wiley (1st year)
Defensive Coordinator: Brian Stewart (1st year)
2027 record: 3-9 (17th in ACC)
Preseason All-American: None
Preseason All-ACC: None
Bubba Mack has been a miracle worker in the past and he takes his talent to Palo Alto. Stanford finished last season on a high, upsetting rival Notre Dame in what proved to be Jim Mora's final game as head coach of the Cardinal, retiring soon after. Mack brings in a brand new coaching staff with new schemes on both offense and defense as well as a bunch of portal guys to hopefully help raise the floor and ceiling of a Stanford program that has won five games just once since 2019.
Previewing Stanford's Offense for 2028
New offensive coordinator Richard Wiley runs a quarterback friendly offense that should make things easier on talented quarterback Tavien St. Clair. The redshirt junior is a former five-star prospect that left Ohio State for playing time in Palo Alto where he struggled with turnovers and had a lot put on his shoulders in his first year as a starter. With a year under his belt, St. Clair should be much improved in Wiley's offense.
Both Mack and Wiley have a history of leaning on their running game and that should continue this year with the late portal addition of Sire Gaines. Gaines was a 1,000-yard rusher at Boise State before transferring to UCLA last year where his role was reduced for the defending national champions. Gaines initially transferred to Utah earlier this offseason but then left the program to join Mack's for his final year of college football where he could very well be what Kam Davis was for Kennesaw State last year as the lead back with Trent Parrish factoring in there as well, having score eight touchdowns last year as a goal-line weapon.
The big question mark are the receivers and the offensive line, which is almost completely brand new. The Cardinal do bring back Deon Jasso, who averaged seventeen yards per reception last season and should have a bigger role in this offense.

Previewing Stanford's Defense for 2028
Pretty much an entirely new secondary led by portal additions Rukeem Stroud and Cameron Keys at a corner, which were among the top available players in the portal at their position. The front seven remains relatively the same with returning starters Joe Asiain and Adam Shovlin at defensive end and pretty much the same linebackers back although it remains to be seen who the starters end up being after training camp.
The coaching staff has been raving about Manu Toomer, the redshirt sophomore that Mack called the "star of the offseason" after not playing much in his first two seasons and true freshmen pass rushers Avery Tangelo and David Calloway who come in with plenty of hype as the highest ranked high school signings of Mack's transition class.
Schedule (2027 record)
at Fresno State (10-3, 6-1 Pac-12)
vs. Kennesaw State (12-2, 7-1 C-USA)
at #14 North Carolina (10-3, 6-2 ACC)
vs. #1 Clemson (12-2, 7-1 ACC)
OPEN
at #2 Miami (13-1, 8-0 ACC)
at #15 Notre Dame (11-2)
vs. SMU (6-7, 4-4 ACC)
vs. Virginia Tech (7-6, 4-4 ACC)
at Georgia Tech (3-9, 2-6 ACC)
vs. Virginia (4-8, 2-6 ACC)
at California (5-7, 3-5 ACC)
vs. San Jose State (8-6, 6-2 Pac 12)
Stanford could easily start the season 0-8 with a tough slate to open up the Mack era as they begin the year with some tough G6 opponents in Fresno State and Kennesaw State, Mack's former team. If they can split that first two series, it puts them in better position to withstand what on paper looks like four straight losses as they play four consecutive preseason ranked opponents that all have playoff operations.
If they can survive that stretch in terms of injuries and morale, the season lightens up with winable games against Georgia Tech, Virginia, California and San Jose state to end the season and potentially get them into a bowl game.
Projected ACC Standing: 9th
Projected Final Record: 6-6
The added boost of excitement around the program after having what felt like temporary solutions in Frank Reich and Jim Mora should give Stanford enough juice to beat Fresno State and Kennesaw State to open the season and the bold prediction here is they upset either North Carolina, Miami or Notre Dame to earn their third win. They then just need to find three more wins along the bottom of the ACC and even if they just get two, they then get San Jose State to end the season in what should be a win for Stanford if they truly did improve in the offseason.
