CHARLOTTE (AP) This was the first game of the NBA Cup for the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets. Both teams came into this game with only one loss under their belts and both fought to keep it that way.

Charlotte started out rocky, missing their first four shots. Then the shots started falling. For everybody. From everywhere. New York had six players that finished in double-digit scoring, including Devin Booker with 17 points and Charlotte had five players in double-digit scoring.

The Hornets went on a 16-7 run to take a three point lead at the end of the first quarter. Noah Baldwin began to pick up steam in the second quarter for New York scoring 15 of the Knicks’ 38 second quarter points to give his team a little cushion.

It was a tough physical matchup and both teams lost players, New York’s Sam Hendricks went out with a hyperextended shoulder in the third quarter. Hendricks was able to chip in 4 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Austin Jack was out with a bruised tailbone.

Stephen Silas on free throws: I’m just going to say they shot a lot. Like a whole lot. They made forty, so they got at least forty attempts. We made sixteen, so we got at least sixteen and we made over eighty percent of our shots. That’s a huge gap.

Noah Baldwin on Hendricks injury: You never wanna see a guy go out. I told him, it was his four points that helped fuel this win, so we need him back.

BOSTON (AP) The Knicks and the Celtics are locking horns early in the season after last year’s intense Eastern Conference Championship battle. The Celtics were handed their second loss of the season in Seattle where Zach Randolph, Jr. and James Wiseman combined for 45 points.

Newly minted Knick, Yves Missi, checked in midway through the first quarter. He got off to a very slow start, his first shot attempt was blocked Daniel Gafford. He finished the night going 0 for 7 from the field. The game remained close from start to finish, with New York holding a narrow lead throughout. Boston scrapped to tie the game at 70 at the end of the third quarter. It was an off night for DeAndre Ayton, who struggled inside, finishing with only 9 points, despite grabbing 12 rebounds. Noah Baldwin provided a much needed push for New York, scoring 12 of the Knicks 22 fourth quarter points to seal the win.

Stephan Silas on Yves Missi’s start: He met us in New York yesterday and suited up tonight. He was trying. He was able to slow down DeAndre, he grabbed four rebounds for us tonight. We’ll take that. We weren’t expecting too much the first game.

Noah Baldwin on wearing A’Ones two games in a row: I had to get a do over. A’ja [Wilson] and Bam [Adebayo] were on my line after the loss. I couldn’t fumble twice.

NEW YORK (AP) Philadelphia has gotten off to a hot start after dropping their first game of the season to the Brooklyn Nets. Philadelphia came into this matchup on a five game win streak, their last win against the Toronto Raptors. The first quarter started out close enough with Philly being down two points, getting things started from beyond the arc. Quentin Grimes and Kalek House drained two each from beyond the arc to keep things close in the first quarter. New York started to make a push in the second quarter despite Noah Baldwin’s struggles inside. He had only 13 points in the first half. The Knicks started to put things together offensively in the third quarter, holding their double digit lead. Although Philly only shot 6-of-19 in the third quarter, free throws kept the score from being even worse than it could have been. Yves Missi had a better showing for the Knicks tonight as he neared a double-double in the win.


Noah Baldwin on slow start: It happens. This is the second game of a back to back. We played a very physical game against Boston. I just needed to let the game come to me. It did in the second half.

Yves Missi on what changed tonight: Starting with a new team against a team like Boston can be a lot. But just going into this with no pressure made things easier tonight. My teammates were feeding me the ball and I was able to finish.
