DJP knows ball. It's called Gap Down Backer, not Y Stick. We have 3 backs that could rush for a 1,000 yards

Cardinal use momentum to land three four-star prospects on the defensive side of the football
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider

Stanford's defense has been pivotal in the Cardinal's 4-0 start to the season to find themselves at the top of the AP Poll and defensive coordinator Brian Stewart has some new toys to play with in four-star edge rusher Percy Cadet and four-star defensive tackles Cameron Drake and Deontae Shorter committing to the Cardinal.

Cadet, a top 85 recruit in the country, is a talented pass rusher that uses his speed and bend to beat offensive tackles and projects to play that SAM backer role in Stewart's defense where Javon Canady, who has a similar build with perhaps an inch or two on Cadet, currently plays. The Cardinal have been recruiting at a high level at that position with the signing of Avery Tangelo and David Calloway two years ago and last season, they signed Amar'e Tull from Calabasas.

On the interior, Shorter and Drake are two top 120 prospect with Drake being ranked inside the top 95. The heavier of the two, Shorter could play that nose tackle position at six-foot-one and 307 pounds while Drake, who also lacks ideal height at six-foot-one but comes in at 280 pounds, is more of a candidate from that five-technique slot in the Cardinal's base 3-4 defense.

The rise to No.1 was quicker than anticipated but Tavien helped boost us and then we had a really good portal/start to the season
