Five-star cornerback Kentrell Marvin picks Stanford over Washington
Chris Wallace -- 247Sports Stanford Football Insider

Five-star cornerback Kentrell Marvin has committed to Stanford, picking the Cardinal over Washington and Oregon in a pivotal recruiting win for Bubba Mack's coaching staff.

Marvin is the first five-star to commit to Stanford since the class of 2017 when the Cardinal landed two five-star offensive tackles in Foster Sarrell and Walker Little and quarterback Davis Mills. Marvin is the highest ranked defensive back to commit to Stanford and the first five-star defensive prospect in the 247 Sports era.

Originally from Hawaii, Marvin returns to the Pacific as Stanford was able to hold off a late surge from Washington.

A six-foot-one corner with good size on him already at 202 pounds, Marvin is a versatile prospect that can play either boundary, field or be a bigger nickel. For IMG Academy, Marvin has even played some safety as he's an able and willing tackler with his size. Marvin is a sure-fire day one contributor and will be pushing for a starting role immediately upon his arrival.

The commitment, paired with commitments from four-star offensive tackle Joe Nunn and three-star quarterback, pushes Stanford into that top six and makes a top finish, even potentially a top four finish, possible. Oklahoma, currently ranked fourth, does not have a five-star in their class but do have two more four-stars than Stanford while Alabama and Stanford are tied with a composite score of 172.15.

If Stanford can land five star cornerback Nate Story, who is currently a Texas A&M lean, they would jump into that top four more than likely and if they can finish out the recruitment of guys like Caleb Cone and Kenyon Watford, a top five finish is all but guaranteed.
