CHANDLER SMITH WINS WILD DAYTONA OPENER AS MCQUEEN SPINS ON FINAL LAP
Image
LOGAN MCQUEEN FINISHED 36TH AFTER A LAST-LAP INCIDENT WITH RAJAH CARUTH

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway had all the drama fans could ask for: crashes, lead changes, and heartbreak on the final lap.

For rookie Logan “Lightning” McQueen III, his debut was a mix of promise and frustration.

After struggling in qualifying, McQueen rolled off last in 36th in the No. 51 SKF Peak Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado. By the end of Stage One, he had already gained several spots through patient driving and smart positioning. A late pit call before the stage break allowed McQueen to stay out longer, cycling to the lead to begin Stage Two.

For a few laps, the Tennessee rookie led the pack at the World Center of Racing, marking the first laps led of his Truck Series career. He finished Stage Two inside the top ten, scoring his first stage points.

In the closing laps, McQueen worked his way back toward the top 25, dodging multiple wrecks along the way. But coming to the checkered flag, Rajah Caruth clipped McQueen’s truck, sending him spinning up the banking in front of traffic. Despite heavy damage, NASCAR did not throw a caution, and McQueen limped across the line in 36th place.

It was a disappointing end to a strong effort for the young team, but one that showed flashes of potential heading into the long season ahead.

They Said It
Logan McQueen – Driver, No. 51 SKF Peak Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado
“I’m frustrated, no doubt about it. We battled hard all night after starting last and put ourselves in a spot to at least finish in one piece. Then the 71 just turns us on the last lap. No caution, nothing. I don’t really get it. We’ll regroup, but man, Daytona has not been kind to me so far in my career. I’m ready to move on to Atlanta and show what this team’s really capable of.”

KYLE BUSCH WINS AT ATLANTA AS MCQUEEN EARNS FIRST TOP-20 FINISH
Image
LOGAN MCQUEEN DUCKED LOW TO AVOID A LAST LAP WRECK AND FINISHED 17TH

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made its second stop of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where Kyle Busch captured the win in the FR8 Racing 208.

Busch held off Ty Majeski and Corey Heim in a tight three-truck battle to the finish line.

For rookie Logan “Lightning” McQueen III, it was a much smoother weekend compared to Daytona. The No. 51 SKF Peak Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado rolled off 29th after struggling for raw speed in qualifying, but McQueen showed steady improvement throughout the event.

He finished 22nd in both Stage One and Stage Two, avoiding early incidents and maintaining a clean truck.

In the final stage, McQueen methodically worked through traffic, staying composed through long green-flag runs and surviving a heated battle in the closing laps.

McQueen ducked low near the start finish line to avoid a pile up that occurred just as the leaders took the checkered flag. After crossing the finish line McQueen took a big hit from Stewart Friesen that set the 51 into the wall after the race had officially ended.

Friesen and McQueen, as well as several member of both driver's teams, had to be separated in the garage area following the incident.

Despite the chaos, McQueen crossed the line 17th, marking his first career top-20 finish in the Truck Series and earning 20 points for his efforts. The solid rebound from Daytona helped Peak Motorsports climb the early standings and provided momentum heading into the next round at Las Vegas.
