Kick Sauber Rookie' Noura Kassir Is Earning Respect After A 2nd Place Finish Over Leader Max Verstappen.



It was a celebration weekend for Kick Sauber as rookie' Noura Kassir dominated in her performance in Austria with an more than impressive second place finish.

Starting the grid at 5th, Kassir was able to pass Ferrari's Charles LeClerc, Mercedes' George Russell, & Red Bulls' Max Verstappen.

ESPN caught up with Kassir for an interview following today's podium finish:

ESPN: “You were under pressure from Verstappen for most of that final stint. Can you walk us through your mindset as you defended against the championship leader?”

NK: "My team & I have been working hard to build a car that can compete with the best this season. I think we proved today that we have finally made that step.. As far as Max goes.. It's a surreal moment to see my name finish ahead of his. This was a moment I've dreamed about & it happened today in Spielberg."

ESPN: “Lando Norris may have taken the win today, but beating Max is no small feat. Where do you think the pace came from with Sauber this weekend?”

NK: "McLaren has a phenomenal car with two amazing drivers. Congratulations to Lando on his win today.. I think the pace came from the ups & downs of the F1 season. I know I'm just a rookie but I'm here to prove something. That I am one of the best drivers in the world. We had a 4th place finish in Canada that saw us just shy of a podium. I wasn't going to let that opportunity go this weekend. It was do or die."

ESPN: “You’ve raced Max before, but today you beat him straight-up on pace and strategy. What does that mean to you personally?”

NK: "Honestly, it's not just Max Verstappen that stands out. I also beat out everyone else besides Lando Norris today. LeClerc, Piastri, Russell, & even Lewis Hamilton. All of it means the most to not just myself but for our team moving forward."

ESPN: “How do you plan to carry this momentum forward into the next rounds? Does this change your mindset for the rest of the season?”

NK: "Looking at the standings, I'm pretty far behind sixth place but I have a comfortable lead in seventh. Obviously I want the podiums & I want the trophies but each track is different. A big performance today doesn't mean we'll be back every single weekend.. But the trophies & podiums are always our goal each race weekend."

ESPN: “You’re now firmly in the spotlight after this performance. Are you ready for the extra attention and pressure that comes with beating the best?”

NK: "I welcome it all. I've reached my dreams of racing in Formula 1 & I want to be the very best. It won't happen overnight but I get to go against the best this sport has ever seen & I hope one day I am included in that conversation."

Kick Sauber's rookie Noura Kassir will return to action on July 3rd at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
