Ceddanne Rafaela Injury Woes Continue With Calf Tear

Boston, MA. - The Boston Red Sox announced over the weekend that CF Ceddanne Rafaela was expected to miss at least the last month of the regular season and potentially the playoffs after tearing his calf in the August 22nd contest against the New York Yankees.

Rafaela, who left the game in the 3rd inning legging an RBI single into a double, had the MRI results come back on Monday with the news.

"Obviously, you don't want to lose a glove like Ceddanne in the outfield, but we have depth we can rely on," said special advisor Kyle Red when asked about the injury.

It is the 3rd time Rafaela has missed extended time this year, with the outfielder originally suffering a wrist sprain that cost him a week and later a concussion that left him out of the lineup for two weeks while playing shortstop. Rafaela's injuries while playing short prompted the Red Sox to trade OF Wilyer Abreu at the deadline to free up the outfield log jam.

Victor Robles, who came over in the Abreu deal, is expected to split time with Rob Refsnyder in right field, while Roman Anthony slides into centerfield. Robles has been used sparingly since since being acquired from the Mariners, but smacked a home run in the August 22nd contest after replacing Rafaela.
