Going to be a exciting year.. Your roster is loaded.. 1 player under a 74 Overall. Lot's of Impact and Star Dev's waiting in the wings ready to help Coach Vaughn continue the tradition and earn that lifetime contract.
We're definitely stacked, but there might be some things coming down the pipe that shakes up the depth :shifty:

is Va Tech one of the teams that loses like 45 players year one? how have they recovered from a numbers standpoint? ratings look pretty poor.
You're thinking of Virginia, them and Vandy get raped in Y2. VTech has been consistently average. They had a few years before we were in the ACC they were in and out of the Top 25, but have been around .500 since.

But they also have 7 kickers/punters soooo team building isn't their strong suit :fml:

Not as graphic as we'd like, but we'll take it. Nc-17 showing instead of X rated

Despite Early Miscues, Chanticleers Roll To Kickoff Title Defense

Blacksburg, VA. - Last year when the Chanticleers and Hokies met, Virginia Tech linebacker DeMarcus Waiters made Fredrick Meredith’s life miserable — intercepting him three times in a Coastal win. This time around, Meredith made sure to steer clear of the playmaking linebacker, though the junior quarterback still had a pair of miscues in the first half that kept the Chanticleers from building a larger cushion before the break.

Virginia Tech opened with the ball, and despite a first-play sack by Coastal defensive end Alfonso Smith — who had promised earlier in the week that the defensive line would “bring the heat” while the new-look secondary settled in — the Hokies struck first. A stunning 56-yard rush by George Day on 3rd-and-19 kept the drive alive, and Tech eventually punched it in to take an early 7-0 lead against the defending national champions.

While the Chanticleers only dialed up 15 designed runs on the afternoon, with Meredith adding six scrambles of his own, new transfer halfback Cornell Jennings made the most of his limited touches. The former USC Trojan exploded for 100-plus yards in his Coastal debut, highlighted by a 59-yard scamper on his very first carry — bursting through the hole and leaving a defender spinning with a filthy juke move.

It was clear that Kade Vaughn’s offense wanted to get the passing attack in rhythm early and often, but the head coach made it clear after the game that fans should expect a more balanced approach moving forward.

“We really wanted to get the passing game humming — see how Dorian, Malcolm [Briggs], Cornell, and Fredrick all mesh live,” Vaughn said. “Now that we’ve got a feel for where everyone’s comfortable, expect much more balance going forward.”

Despite throwing two interceptions that both led to Virginia Tech scoring drives in the second and third quarters, Meredith still finished with over 300 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air — plus 66 yards and another score on the ground.

“I caught myself pressing, wanting to live up to the hype,” Meredith admitted. “Just got to get back in that groove of killing them with patience. No defense plays perfect for four quarters. We just have to take our big plays when they slip.”

Coastal led 28–14 late in the second quarter after Meredith connected with Bernie Bender for his second touchdown of the half. But with Virginia Tech threatening to add points before halftime, quarterback Pierre Capers tried to force a throw into double coverage with just eight seconds left.

That proved to be a disastrous choice. Sophomore safety Keke Allotey jumped the route, secured the interception, and sprinted 102 yards the other way — silencing Lane Stadium and sending Coastal into halftime with a commanding 35–14 lead.

The Chanticleers never looked back, cruising to a 51–21 win in Blacksburg to open their national title defense at 1–0. Next up: a massive measuring-stick game at home against rival Clemson — a matchup many are already calling a potential ACC Championship preview between two South Carolina heavyweights.

Image
Mistakes were abound for the Chanticleers secondary including on this final touchdown pass by Pierre Capers, with both safety and corner biting on the flat route leaving the go-route behind wide open.

Image
Coastal may have eased Cornell Jennings into game action, but expect the former USC Trojans to continue to show out in an expanded role as the season rolls along.

Conway, SC. - For the first time since his debut season in 2025, Kade Vaughn’s Coastal Carolina offense went scoreless in the first half. Yet thanks to a pair of missed field goals by Clemson kicker Jimmy Officer, the Chanticleers found themselves trailing just 7–0 at the break — and still very much alive.

If the offense was sputtering, the defense was anything but. Coastal’s front seven mauled Clemson freshman quarterback Tevin Wimbley, sacking him four times before halftime and five more after it. The exclamation point came late: a fourth-down red-zone interception with under two minutes to play, sealing a gritty 20–10 Coastal victory.

“I said in the spring we were going to make life easy for the secondary, so it’s on me to back up the talk,” said defensive end Alfonso Smith, who notched his second straight three-sack performance to start the season. Two of those came on third downs in the first half, forcing both of Officer’s eventual misses.

While the “Teal Wall” held firm, Clemson’s defense returned the favor. Fredrick Meredith looked out of sync for much of the night, completing just 19 of 35 passes while taking repeated hits in the pocket. But when Coastal needed him most, the junior answered.

After Fredrick McCollum finally broke loose for a 73-yard touchdown run — part of his 86-yard night — the Chanticleers seized momentum. A Clemson fumble on the ensuing kickoff gave them a short field, but a pair of Meredith incompletions forced a field goal that stretched the lead to 10–7.

Clemson clawed back behind a big burst from running back Clayton Crum and a successful Officer kick to tie the game. Then, with under five minutes to go, Meredith stepped into the moment.

First, he found Tyler Hagg on a 42-yard crossing route — only for a holding flag, Coastal’s sixth of the night, to erase it. Undeterred, Meredith went right back to work. On 3rd-and-20, he dropped a missile up the sideline to Tavares Tinker, who climbed over corner Ben Polanco to haul in the go-ahead touchdown.

A late Gene Marable field goal extended the lead to ten, giving Coastal just enough cushion when Emmanuel Abrams sealed the win with a goal-line interception on 4th-and-20.

“This is what you want in an in-state rivalry — physical, grind-it-out, no one blinking,” Vaughn said afterward. “We’re fighting for the pride of this great state, and I wouldn’t expect anything less.”

He even flashed a grin when Clemson came up. “Dabo and I have gone to war over the years,” Vaughn said. “He’s one of the guys I respect most in this sport. Never mind he’s only beaten me once — they’ve all been a hell of a fight.”

The defending champs now move to 2–0, but there’s no easing up ahead. Next week, Vaughn and the Chanticleers head north to Happy Valley for a primetime clash with Penn State — his first trip to Beaver Stadium as the head man in Conway.

Image
The Teal Wall stood firm all night, bending only once on the early touchdown as Alfonso Smith and Co sacked Tevin Wembly nine times on The Teal.

Image
Despite the gaudy sack numbers, Wembly had momentum early with a 5/5, 72 yard effort on the Tigers 1st Q scoring drive.

Image
Trailing 20-10 with under 2 minutes left and facing 4th and 20, Clemson needed a miracle. Instead, the team built in the image of God only found the hands of Emmanuel Abrams, leaving their prayer unanswered as Coastal ran out the clock.
