BRONCOS LOOK STRONG IN WEEK 1

GAME RECAP

After dropping their season opener last season at home to Top-25 ranked Auburn, Boise State Broncos headed to Durham to take on the #16 ranked Blue Devils.

The first half was a defensive battle that saw Boise State score just 2 touchdowns but still managed to take a (25-6) lead into the locker room as the Defense records a Safety after a beautiful punt by Rickie Walters that was downed on the 1 yd line and Cedric Eagles connects on 3 FG's

The Bronco Offense found it's groove in the 2nd half though. Redshirt Freshman Drew Waller started at RB in the 3rd Quarter and produced 12 carries for 65 yds including a pair of touchdowns as BSU extended their lead to (39-13). going into the 4th.

BSU would extend the lead to (53-16) early in the 4th as Cam Hooks throws a pair of touchdowns to Kyle Harmon including a 44 yd score that saw Harmon truck over 3 defenders on his way to the endzone. (Sorry still working on getting game footage).

BSU would add to their lead in the 4th as Cedric Eagles adds on his 4th and 5th FG's of the day and with the 2nd string unit in on both sides of the ball Tremaine Simms comes up with a huge play on Defense returning his INT 15 yds for a "Pick 6" INT

FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-66 DUKE-23

THE GOOD
Despite a off day by Brian Crum the Broncos still managed 197 yds and 2 scores on the ground as Redshirt Freshman Drew Waller played a great 3rd Quarter. Boykins continues to shine in his role as both a runner and a receiver and the Defense held Duke to just 44 yds rushing and forced 7 punts on the day.

THE BAD
Despite scoring 66 points, BSU had to settle for 5 Field Goals as the team was just 8/20 (40%) on 3rd Down and 2/4 on 4th Downs..

THE UGLY
BSU struggled with in game injuries to the O-line all day leading to Hooks being sacked 3 times and the Line getting called for 10 holding calls for 100 yds worth of penalties.

BRONCOS CRUISE WIN WEEK 2 HOME OPENER!!!

GAME RECAP

Boise State and BYU once regional rivals in the Mountain West renewed the rivalry in Week 2 as the Broncos hosted the Cougars for the first of a 2 game home/away series with BSU traveling to Provo next season.

BYU finished 2031 with 10 games and a Mountain West Championship under former UCAL Bruin HC DeShaun Foster. but armed with a Freshman QB where no match for the Broncos. who scored 6 times in the 1st half leading (42-6) with 30 seconds to play before the Cougars got their biggest play of the half as they score to make it (42-13) going into the locker room.

The Highlight of the 1st half was the opening play as QB Cam Hooks rolls off the play action and fire a 40 yd strike down the middle of the field to Max Kramer who manages to deflect the pass into the open hands of Eric Zentner who goes 77 yds to the house for the hook and ladder score
(I downloaded the highlight to my XBox but am having issues with my One Drive account because the video doesn't seem to want to upload)
Cam Hooks starting just his 3rd game of his career looked like a season pro showcasing NFL Sunday talent as he ends the half 19/21 throwing for 321 yds and 4 TD.

The 2nd half was a much different affair as BYU turns to their backup QB JR Seth Glenn (78 Ovr) who sparks the Cougar offense throwing for 240 yds and 3 TD's and BYU actually outscores the Broncos (28-24) in the 2nd half.

With Boise State leading (56-27) Coach Miller pulled his starters as Bronco fans got their first look at Oklahoma transfer Kyle Gowin.. Gowin played okay completing (6/9) pass's for 102 yds but did throw a late INT which led to a Cougar touchdown..FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-66 BYU-41

KEY PLAYERS
QB C. Hooks-24/28 (85%) 438 yds 5 TD
RB B. Crum-28 carries 129 yds 2 TD
RB J. Boykins-8 carries 46 yds 1 TD, 4 rec 46 yds
RB D. Waller-1 carry 3 yds 1 TD
WR K. Harmon-7 rec 202 yds 2 TD
WR E. Zentner-9 rec 163 yds 2 TD
WR M. Kramer-3 rec 51 yds
TE L. Ika-4 rec 41 yds
TE S. Fowler-2 rec 23 yds 1 TD

THE GOOD
1)-For a 2nd straight week the Offense scores 66 points
2)-Cam Hooks completion %
3) Kyle Harmon doing #2 type things in the Offense
4) Defense registered 8 sacks and 2 INT

THE BAD
1)-Giving up 28 points to the Cougars in the 2nd half to their backup QB

THE UGLY
1)- Giving up 170 rushing yards (SR S. Potts-92 Ovr) had 22 carries for 157 yds) after giving up just 44 yds (1.9 avg) to Duke in Week 1.

It's been weird going back to having a righty QB after 3 years of Draft the lefty, but he has shined.. Hooks is actually higher rated then Draft. Draft graduated as a 94 well Hooks is a 96. as a Junior but the way he is playing I doubt he stays this time.

Yeah wanted to add in sorta my take on how the game went. I still don't understand why my uploads are not showing up on my One Drive account. I was pretty excited when Kramer and Zentner pulled off the hook and ladder play.

BRONCOS MAK IT 3 STRAIGHT!!
GAME RECAP

A huge 1st half by Boise State left the Michigan State stunned and the Spartans never recovered. JR QB Darrius Mama (83 ovr) would throw 2 INT's in the opening quarter leading to the Broncos taking a (17-0) lead in the 1st Quarter and a (31-0) late in the 2nd. The Spartans would manage to find the endzone with a 31 yd TD run by SO RB Manny Browner (91 ovr) with less then a minute to play in the half to make it (31-7) but at this point Bronco fan's were left wondering if we would see a 3rd straight 66 point game.

With the commanding lead Coach Miller would slow things down in the 2nd half turning to the ground game as Boise State closes out the game with a pair of rushing touchdowns on their way to another big day on the ground with 196 yds finishing just 4 yds shy of the 200 mark.

Leading (45-7) with under 2 minutes to play, Michigan State would manage 1 more late score as as backup RB Faitele Kikaha (87) rumbles in from 10 yds out to complete a 8 play 82 yd drive but the Spartans didn't even attempt the onside kick as BSU just kneels out the clock ready for their Week 4 "Bye".
FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-42 MICHIGAN STATE-14

KEY PLAYERS
QB C. Hooks-26/41 (63%) 304 yds 4 TD
RB B. Crum-24 carries 166 yds 2 TD
RB J. Boykins-5 carries 28 yds (1 Fumble)
WR E. Zentner-6 rec 92 yds 2 TD
WR K. Harmon-6 rec 63 yds 1 TD
WR M. Kramer-4 rec 44 yds 1 TD
TE L. Ika-7 rec 92 yds
TE S. Fowler-1 rec 10 yds
CB Q. Forrest-1 INT
FS J. Medeiros-1 INT

THE GOOD
1)- After struggling to create turn overs last year, the Bronco Defense comes up with 2 more INT's giving them 6 on the season.
2)-The play of Cam Hooks.. Hooks has looked like a superstar so far throwing throwing for 13 TD's and just 1 INT well completing 68% of his pass's.
3) Brian Crum is averaging 128.3 yds per game and is well on pace for his 3rd straight 1000 yd season.

THE BAD
After rushing 12 times for 60 yds and 2 scores in the Broncos Week 1 win over Duke. Former 5* Recruit RS Freshman Drew Waller has battled in game injuries limiting him to just 1 carry against the Cougars and zero snaps against the Spartans.

THE UGLY

BSU was called for 2 more holding calls giving them 16 in the first 3 games, but Michigan State was even worse getting called for 11 penalties resulting in 76 yds and several drive killing opportunites.

BRONCOS WIN PAC-12 OPENER DOWNING TROJANS IN CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

GAME RECAP

USC came into the game barely holding on to a Top-25 ranking after a Week 4 loss to Oregon well Boise State came in fresh off a Week 4 "Bye".. The Trojans played 2 halves of football. A great 1st half that saw them pickoff Cam Hooks twice and hold BSU to just 11 points (2 FG's and a Safety for the first 16 minutes of the game but the last 4 minutes of the 2nd Quarter saw both teams combine for 21 points as BSU takes a (25-24) lead into the locker room.

A early INT by Hooks led to USC scoring the first points of the game making it (7-0) but BSU would battle back first scoring on a safety midway through the 1st and then connecting on a pair of FG's to make it (8-7) after the 1st Quarter. USC opened up the 2nd Quarter with another touchdown retaking the lead (14-8) well holding BSU to yet another FG (14-11). BSU would hold the Trojans to a FG as well making it (17-11) before finally putting together back to back scoring touchdown ending drives as Hooks finds Max Kramer on back to back scores to make the game (25-17)..

Boise State had a chance to extend their lead with 5 seconds to play in the half buy a 59 yd FG attempt by Cedric Eagles was left wide left giving the Trojans one last play in the half and RS FR Keelan Fina (75 ovr) delivers throwing a bomb to RS SO Johnny Stockton (89 ovr) for the score (25-24).

The Bronco Defense would show up though in the 2nd half picking off Fina to open up the half as Sophomore CB Roland Finley gets the INT to set up a Cedric Eagles FG and then it was Eagles again for FG #5 extending the lead to 31-24.

Still (31-24) going into the 4th, the Bronco Defense continue to play inspired, holding USC to just 38 yds on the ground (1.5 avg) well also forcing the Trojans to turn the ball over twice on 4th downs which lead to a trio of rushing touchdowns including 2 by RS FR Drew Waller who has a solid 4th Quarter carrying the ball 9 times for41 yds including the 2 scores. Brian Crum would add the other as Crum goes over 100 yds with the 16 yd score.

Now leading (52-24) with less then 2 minutes to play, Coach Miller made a interesting call going for it on 4th and goal forcing USC to take over inside the 5 yd line. Fina did his best to escape the rush and kept the Broncos from tying to secure a 2nd safety in the game but the Trojans out of options would attempt their own 4th and 6 turning the ball over on downs giving BSU prime field position as Hooks throws his 3rd touchdown to TaJ Carr to close out the scoring.. FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-59 USC-24

KEY PLAYERS
QB C Hooks- 45/73 (61%) 549 yds 3 TD 2 INT
RB B. Crum-29 carries 110 yds 1 TD
RB D. Waller-9 carries 41 yds 2 TD
RB J. Boykins-13 carries 34 yds 7 rec 62 yds
WR K. Harmon-13 rec 205 yds
WR Taj Carr-7 rec 80 yds 1 TD
WR M Kramer-8 rec 57 yds 2 TD
WR E. Zentner-2 rec 15 yds
TE L. Ika-7 rec 125 yds
CB R. Finley-1 INT

THE GOOD
1) The Bronco run defense for a 2nd time this season held the opponent to less then 50 yds
2) the WR Core. Despite losing Zentner early in the game with a injury the unit stepped up as Kyle Harmon has is 2nd (200 yd game) of the season.
3) The Run game (Crum/Waller/Boykins) once again push the Broncos run total near 200 yds on the day despite 73 pass attempts by Hooks

THE BAD
Settling for 7 FG attempts and connecting on 5 left it just a touchdown difference for 3 Quarters, only a big 4th Quarter saved the day.

THE UGLY
The Trojans rushing attack
The last series of the 1st half as Eagles misses the 59 yd FG attempt only to have USC turn it into a touchdown.

IMPACT FROM THE GAME AND UP NEXT
Boise State jumps up another spot in the rankings as they move to (4-0) Overall and (1-0) in Pac-12 play but the Broncos will face their biggest challenge yet as they travel to UCLA in Week 6.. The Bruins like the Broncos are undefeated (5-0) moving to #21 in the rankings this week . This game could very well be a preview to the Pac-12 Championship this season as UCLA is already (3-0) in Pac-12 play defeating Fresno State, Washington and Utah in the early going.
