Bye Week Report: The State of the Titans
Depending on who you ask, the Tennessee Titans bye week could not have gone come at a better or worse time. The Titans are coming off their third loss of the season, dropping to the second seed and with it, losing the first round bye should the playoffs begin today. The Denver Broncos, winners of three straight, are also on their heels for that second seed and Buffalo could easily make a late season push as well to go from first-round bye to first round road game in the wild card.
On the other side, the Titans are the second seed and likely guaranteed to make the playoffs already thanks to the putrid AFC South with second place being five-win Jacksonville. They've already doubled their win total last year and after the bye, they get a very winnable game against Jacksonville before playing three straight playoff contenders in Dallas (8-4), Pittsburgh (7-5) and Cleveland (8-4). So what better time than now to get a bye week, get healthy and prepare for that playoff run.
Best player through weeks 1-13:
Cam Ward leads the NFL with a seventy-one percent completion percentage and has twenty-one touchdowns to seven interceptions, becoming a more efficient quarterback than he was last year. Rooking running back Mark Fletcher Jr. deserves a shout as well with 60.2 yards per game and six total touchdowns, albeit he's fumbled five times.
The winner, though, is linebacker Zaire Franklin who leads the NFL with 144 tackles and has twenty two tackles for loss with five sacks and four interceptions and is the favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year.
Worst player through weeks 1-12:
Left tackle Dan Moore hasn't been great with seven sacks allowed this season and receiver Elic Ayomanor has been a pretty big disappointment. If not for Ward, Ayomanor probably would have been in the Rookie of the Year discussions last year, catching seventy four passes for 892 yards and six touchdowns. This season, he's caught all of fourteen passes and is averaging 15.3 yards per game this season, effectively losing his job to rookie Ja'Kobi Lane halfway through the year.
Most Impressive game so far:
W 30-28 at Philadelphia
The 37-7 shellacking of the Colts is probably their most dominant performance but the Colts are a pretty bad team. Philadelphia, while healthy, played a pretty good game at home against Tennessee and still lost. We saw Ward be Ward with a 8.9 yards per attempt, throwing for 391 yards and we saw the Titans use all of their young playmakers in that game with Mark Fletcher, Ja'Kobi Lane and Ward all scoring touchdowns.
Least Impressive game so far:
L 34-23
A double-digit loss to a Las Vegas team that isn't very good after the team had just beaten Houston at home to begin the season 6-0. It was a gut punch then and still one now, especially if they end up losing a home game over it.

Almost didn’t say it but since you snarked me on the Duke CUSA thing I’m calling out that league scoreboard dumpster fire.
