The Postmortem: Alex Rowe was on the brink of a breakout performance, getting the band back together and the talent question

Lost in the dissapointing finish to the season as Stanford fell 37-19 to Ohio State is that prior to his injury, Alex Rowe was quietly having his breakout performance.
Rowe, who injured his right knee in the second quarter and didn't return, had already thrown the ball seventeen times against Ohio State. Even if you're conservative and double it for the rest of the game, that would be the most attempts he's had since Week 13 against Cal when he threw the ball 42 times. He's thrown it more than 34 times just twice this season, the other coming against Wake Forest in a shootout.
It seemed that Stanford's gameplan was to put the ball in Rowe's hand and let him air it out, trusting him to do so, a far departure from the three-interception performance against SMU earlier this season that had people wondering if he was the guy.
Starting from the NC State game, where he threw three touchdowns, he's gone 271 with 4 touchdowns, 291 with a touchdown and 226 with a touchdown and 82 percent completion with the last two coming against Oklahoma and SMU.
It'll always be a what-if when it comes to this because it certainly looked like Stanford was the better team, or at least equal to, Ohio State in that first half prior to Rowe's injury.
Who comes back for next season?
Trumaine Lasike and Manu Toomer are out eligibility, although they should declare for the draft regardless. So is linebacker Isaiah Lanovoi, who made some key red zone stops to keep to score respectable.
Rowe is technically draft eligible although he's likely coming back. Anthony Masifilo is another redshirt sophomore that should be expected back. We'll have to see about Rodney Cookus who had a 1,000-yard season with ten touchdowns but could improve his draft stock with more consistent performance.
Along the offensive line, left tackle Neil Pryor's injury plagued season, which saw him play just six complete games, could lead him to coming back although he might be a Day 2/3 draft selection if he declares. Such is the case for guard Shaquille Marks, although a return is more likely for him.
Both coordinators, Richard Wiley and Brian Stewart, are expected to return although they are entering the final year of their deals. Stewart's defense had its struggles but considering the one-year portal ban and the youth in the secondary, finishing in the top six of the ACC in scoring defense is about the best you can expect.
Does Stanford have a talent issue?
One thing that was noticeable in a very physical game between Stanford and Ohio State is that when Stanford was without their top guys, most notably Rowe and Lasike, there was a big drop off. The same couldn't be said for Ohio State, albeit who entered the game relatively healthy and didn't have the major injuries that Stanford suffered before and throughout the game but when they did lose a lineman for a series or two, the drop off wasn't a big one.
Stanford's top end guys are as good as anyone's but the depth is where the lack of stacking consistent top recruiting classes shows. Ohio State's top running back, Ian Gee, has 207 carries. Stanford's has 280. Stanford's top linebacker, even with missing a game, has 941 snaps, their top corner has 858 and their top defensive lineman has 687.
Ohio State, meanwhile, is able to rotate guys, a luxury Stanford doesn't have. Perhaps that's why by season's end, they're the healthier team. The Cardinal will need to continue to improve on their depth this offseason in order to be better equipped to survive the 16-game season grind.

Stanford has a coaching issue tbh.
And I heard a doordasher dropped off Plan B to Coach Mack.
Losing Lasike is going to hurt.
