Defense: D.J. Wesolak (17 tackles, 9 TFL, 5.5 sacks)

Last Meeting
No previous matchup.

Players to Watch
Image QB Jacob Clark (Sr) | 6′5″, 220 lbs | 80 OVR, 89 THP, 87 SAC, 86 MAC, 77 DAC
Even in the Bears struggles, Clark has been a bright spot for Missouri State in their maiden voyage into the FBS. Against two of the better teams in the conference, Clark threw for four touchdowns against FIU and followed it up with three touchdowns in the 31-22 loss to Liberty. Since his two interceptions against SMU, he's thrown just one interception in the last six games and could be due for another big game against a reeling Kennesaw State defense.

Image HB Shomari Lawrence (Sr) | 6′0″, 207 lbs | 81 OVR, 87 SPD, 90 ACC, 81 BTK, 84 TRK, 84 SFA
The Owls have struggled all season long to stop the running game and here comes another physical running back that should continue to cause problems for the defense. Lawrence isn't the move explosive running back but he does a good job of picking up consistent yardage and falling forward. If Kennesaw State's tackling issues continue, he could finally break a long run this season as he is coming off his longest run of the season with a 28-yarder against UTEP in his first 100-yard performance of the year.

Image EDGE D.J. Wesolak (Jr) | 6′3″, 255 lbs | 81 OVR, 80 SPD, 88 ACC, 87 FMV
A super productive pass rusher with a great first step, Wesolak matches up well against a Kennesaw State offensive line that has a sack rate of 4.6 percent, the second highest in the conference. Wesolak is currently third in the conference in sacks and a strong end to the season could not only improve his all-conference selection chances but also increase his value ahead of the transfer portal with a final year of eligibility remaining.

Owls HC Bubba Mack challenges university, AD for more funding

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Kennesaw State head coach Bubba Mack took the podium at a team banquet on Saturday night following the Owls' 33-10 win over Missouri State on Saturday. The banquet, which was held to celebrate the graduating senior class, was funded by Mack, a former NFL player who is in his first season as head coach of the Owls.

During his speech, in which he congratulated his players on a successful season where the Owls have nearly tripled their win total from last year, he also challenged school officials, including athletic director Milton Overton, for more support from the university.

"We've done our part," Mack said of the football program, "When I got hired here, everyone wanted to see if we could make it work here at Kennesaw State. We've won five games and we're heading to [Liberty] next week to make it six. It's time for the school to do their part and it starts with you Milton [Overton]. We have to fight for these kids just like they fought for this university on that damn field this whole season. They ain't never quit on us, least we could is take care of them."

Mack and Overton, who was in attendance for the banquet, go back to their playing days when they were teammates at the University of Oklahoma. It was no secret, at the time of the hire, that Kennesaw State was one of the more financially strapped programs in the country. The coaching staff is still among the lowest in Conference USA in terms of salary and the program has the honor of having the smallest stadium in FBS.

While Kennesaw State might have exceeded expectations on the season thanks to a miraculous win over Louisiana Tech earlier in the season, the program still feels like its struggling to get the positive momentum needed to really get going under Mack with finances playing a huge role.

"We've got guys that want to come here," Mack continued, "They want to be part of something special, stay close to home, get a chance to play early but we can't afford to get them on campus. We can't afford to be competitive in the NIL market even with our peers. That has to change, it has to."

While college coaches cannot speak publicly on specific recruitments, Mack's message was almost certainly referring to a handful of in-state prospects that the Owls struck out, such as edge rusher Cam Brightwell (Bogart, Ga.) who recently committed to Auburn, an understandable recruiting loss, but also lost linebacker Tiquan Regis (Moultrie, Ga.) to Middle Tennessee State.

The Owls are currently battling for a few prospects that have them pitted against most prestigious programs with deeper pockets. Their top target at offensive tackle, Legend Ojeda, holds an offer from USF. Jalen Maddox, a three-star interior lineman, recently picked up an offer from Wake Forest. South Carolina's David Addai, the 86th ranked corner in this cycle and a top-20 prospect in the state, has an offer from NC State.

"We need to be competitive [financially]," Mack said, "That's the only way we're going to compete on the field."

The Owls end the regular season on the road against undefeated Liberty with a chance to not only upset the Flames for a consecutive season but become bowl eligible.
