Steelers Select Mizzou G Cayden Green After Some Re-Positioning

Image

Pittsburgh, PA. - With their quarterback situation addressed by acquiring Anthony Richardson Sr., the Pittsburgh Steelers shifted gears in the 2026 NFL Draft, entering the night intent on taking the best player available with the 23rd overall pick. Many expected Pittsburgh to lean into the passing game and target a wide receiver, especially with Arizona State product Jordyn Tyson still on the board.

But the Los Angeles Rams had other ideas. Looking to replace Davante Adams after his retirement, Rams GM Les Snead made an aggressive push to leapfrog Buffalo and Dallas — two teams rumored to be high on Tyson. The Steelers leveraged that urgency into a deal.

Pittsburgh traded down from No. 23 to No. 28, picking up an additional third-round pick in this year’s draft while also agreeing to swap first-round picks with Los Angeles in 2027 — a move that could pay off handsomely given the Rams’ unsettled quarterback situation. As part of the package, the Steelers sent a 2028 third-rounder back to L.A.

At No. 28, Pittsburgh selected guard Cayden Green out of Missouri.

Green, a former five-star recruit, checks in at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds with prototypical size and power for the interior. After beginning his college career at Oklahoma, he transferred to Missouri and quickly established himself as one of the SEC’s most consistent blockers. His tape shows heavy hands, natural anchor strength, and the ability to displace defenders in the run game.

While not an elite mover in space, Green has enough athleticism to thrive in zone concepts and is considered technically sound in pass protection. He allowed just one sack across his final two college seasons. Coaches rave about his work ethic and toughness, making him a strong candidate to develop into a long-term starter.

For Pittsburgh, the pick fits both short- and long-term needs. With Isaac Seumalo back on only a one-year deal, Green projects as his likely successor in 2027. He joins an already young core up front featuring Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick, and Troy Fautanu — giving the Steelers one of the youngest offensive lines in the league.

Steelers Select LSU LB Harold Perkins Jr In 2nd Round

Image

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers leaned into tradition on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, reinforcing their defensive identity with the selection of LSU linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. in the second round.

While wide receivers Carnell Tate (Ohio State) and Antonio Williams (Clemson) were still on the board and tempting options to pair with new quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr., general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin stayed true to the franchise’s history of prioritizing elite linebacker talent.

Perkins entered college football as one of the most hyped recruits in the country, and at LSU he lived up to the billing. A twitchy, explosive 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker, he combines elite sideline-to-sideline speed with the instincts of a natural playmaker. Perkins logged double-digit sacks in two of his four seasons with the Tigers and forced nine turnovers in his career, flashing the versatility to rush the passer, spy mobile quarterbacks, and drop into coverage against tight ends and running backs.

What separates Perkins is his ability to change games in an instant. His closing burst is rare, and his relentless motor fits perfectly into Pittsburgh’s aggressive 3–4 scheme. Scouts have compared his skill set to that of Micah Parsons — though Perkins still has room to grow in terms of block-shedding technique and run fits against power-heavy offenses.

The Steelers view Perkins as a defensive chess piece — someone who can line up as an inside linebacker next to Patrick Queen or slide outside to create havoc off the edge. With T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith already anchoring the pass rush, Perkins adds a third dimension to a front seven that suddenly looks among the most dynamic in the league.

Passing on wide receiver talent may sting in the short term, but Pittsburgh believes it has secured a difference-maker on defense for the next decade.

Notable 2nd Round Picks
Carolina | Vanderbilt TE Eli Stowers
Houston } Auburn EDGE Keldric Faulk
New York (N) | Washington WR Denzel Boston
Atlanta | Penn State HB Noah Singleton
New York (A) | Miami QB Carson Beck
Green Bay | Washington HB Jonah Coleman
Cincinnati | Ohio State WR Carnell Tate

Pittsburgh Starts 3rd Day With Zachariah Branch

Image

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers finally gave new quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. a dynamic weapon — and it’s one that can fly.

With the 88th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh selected wide receiver Zachariah Branch out of Georgia (and previously USC). Known for his electric speed and elite agility in space, Branch profiles as a true game-breaker who can stretch defenses vertically or turn a short pass into a long gain. The Steelers passed on physical standout Nyck Harbor to secure Branch’s more versatile skill set, giving Richardson a change-of-pace threat to complement DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin.

In the later rounds, Pittsburgh returned its focus to the defense. With their 4th-round pick, the Steelers drafted Terry Moore, a rangy free safety out of Duke. Moore brings sharp instincts, fluid hips, and a knack for reading quarterbacks — traits that make him an intriguing developmental piece to compete in the secondary rotation.

In the 6th round, Pittsburgh added more depth to the defensive backfield with Jermaine Matthews Jr., a cornerback from Ohio State. Matthews is a scrappy, athletic cover man who thrives in press situations and plays bigger than his frame, projecting as a potential nickel contributor and special teams ace early in his career.

For a team that entered the draft needing both offensive playmakers and defensive depth, the Steelers leave the weekend with a blend of both — and more importantly, a much faster roster.

Notable Day 3 Picks
Seattle | Ohio State LB Sonny Styles (3rd Round)
Arizona | Michigan S Rod Moore (3rd Round)
Buffalo | South Carolina WR Nyck Harbor (3rd Round)
Indianapolis | Oregon EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei (3rd Round)
Dallas | Florida WR Eugene Wilson III (3rd Round)
Carolina } Southern Miss CB Josh Moten (4th Round)
Detroit | SMU QB Kevin Jennings (4th Round)
Indianapolis | Oklahoma HB Jayden Ott (5th Round)
Miami | USC FS Kamari Ramsay (5th Round)
Baltimore | Oklahoma QB John Mateer (5th Round)

Steelers Sign Six UDFA

Image

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially announced the addition of six undrafted free agents as they continue to round out their 2026 roster.

Headlining the group is DB King Mack (Penn State), a versatile defensive back with speed and instincts who projects as a contributor on special teams while developing in the secondary.

On offense, the Steelers inked WR Johntay Cook II (Syracuse), a dynamic playmaker with big-play ability, and HB Isaiah Augustave (Colorado), a physical runner who adds depth to a crowded backfield. Up front, OT Ethan Onianwa (Houston) and C Zach Rice (North Carolina) bring size and developmental upside to the offensive line room.

Defensively, EDGE Da’Shawn Womack (Ole Miss) rounds out the class, a high-motor pass rusher who showed flashes of disruptive ability in college and will compete for rotational snaps.

While undrafted rookies face an uphill battle, the Steelers believe this group has the tools to push for roster spots in camp and provide valuable depth heading into the 2026 season.

Love the picks of Perkins and Branch.
Both feel like RL picks the Steelers would make. Perkins I feel like is going to develop into a versatile asset. Right now the plan is probably to move Wilson to MLB and let Queen walk next year, so Perkins has the talent to slide right into the vacated spot by Wilson. Branch is probably going to make Calvin expendable very soon :curtain:

Chill sees the vision :blessed:

Plus, he's got two years of team control. Ya'll sleeping on picking up that 1st round swap with the Rams tho. With no Stafford, that could easily be a top 10 pick next year.

Who says AR is forever? :kghah:
